HI, There are alot of Jacob Deckers along the Delaware River, both in Sussex NJ, PA , and Orange Co., NY. Can you guess at some dates for Jacob and his wife? And do you have some idea of where they died? Do you mean Westover? Nancy in Ann Arbor.
Dear Doug, Just a shot in the Dark. My daughter lives in Northampton, Mass. One summer she took me to a little lake somewhere in Mass, I think in the Berkshires, and I talked to the lady who was running the little beach. She told me the history of the house and it included DECKER. In fact her name may have been Decker. I was surprised because I did not previously know of that name in Mass. I can get the name of the little lake from my daughter. Let me know if you want me to pursue this. Nancy in Ann Arbor.
Hi, I hope someone out there knows something about my Decker family. My maiden name was Decker and I don't really know to much about them. the only info that I have is that my GG grandfather was Jacob Decker born in Penn and married a Maggie Westove, of Ohio, their son, my great grandfather was Hiram Decker, born June 17, 1846 in Randolph co., Ind. and died September 16, 1914 in Custer County, Nebraska, he married Martha Ann Wiley, one of their sons, my grandfathers name was George Clinton Decker. If anyone knows of this family please let me know. Thanks for all your help Robin [email protected]
Hello readers of Decker-L. I've been reading this listserv for about two weeks now and you seem to be a helpful and knowledgeable group. Here's my question to the group: I'm seeking information about the parents and ancestors of Charles Decker, born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on February 14, 1842 and died August 5, 1908 in the Solider's and Sailor's Home in Milwaukie, Wisconsin. Charles was married at least twice: one of the wives was Mary Elizabeth McLain of Wood County, Ohio. Charles had a brother George, born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on January 4, 1844. George married Adelaide Lyon on May 30, 1875 in Millerton, NY and the couple moved to Beatrice, Nebraska where George died on January 31, 1924. They had nine children: Ida, Archie, John, Cora, Lewis, Nellie, Gertie, Minnie and Maud. The identity of the parents and/or other siblings to George and Charles remains a mystery, though I'm following the conventional research avenues to seek more information. Does any of this ring a bell for any Deckers out there? Thanks, in advance, for any help. Doug Decker Portland, Oregon [email protected]
Hallo, I read a message, that the Decker name from Germany, came from the name Deckert. Not necessarily. My family comes from Germany (Pfalz) and the name was Decker from way back. I am still looking for more info of Deckers, who came from that region. Marianne

However I have seen the name Decker and Dekker in Dutch phone books. My line is German, the name was Deckert, but the Deckerts in the USA dropped the ending T during world war I as there was a lot of hostility to all things German. August Deckert from Brome, and Sophe Schulze, Hanover Prov. Germany. Have Fun, Jack
I have never heard anything about the English Deckers, only Dutch and German! And I do believe you will find the German folks were originally Deckert and the Dutch were either Decker or Dekker. Niki---who were your grandparents, great grandparents, etc. & where in the U.S. did your ancestors live??? This helps a lot in getting info to you and helping you work on your line. Always start with yourself & work back. I have a lot of Decker (Dutch) info, so let me know what you find. Marilynn Strand
Linda, Thanks for your reply. Will review what you sent and share it with other Decker researchers, especially the one who sent me the info to begin with....Pat Shoemaker. have you heard from her? Yes, I would like to be on list. Mary, My charts differ from yours. I have the parents of Gerrit Janse Decker bap 26-Feb-1662, Kingston, Ulster, NY as Jan Boerson Dekker and his first wife, Heltjie Jacobse [He m. 2. her sister, Willemtie, 24-Dec-1679, Kingston. The parents of Heltie Decker, bap. 10-Jan-1686 and m. Hendrick Schoonmaker were Margriet [Grietje] Janse Dekker and Gerit Janse Decker [K.M. #75] The parents of Margriet were Jan Boerson Dekker and Heltjie Jacobse. Gerrit's parents were Jan Gerretson Decker and Grietjen Hendricks Westercamp. That makes you a descendent of both Jan Broerse Dekker and Jan Geritse Decker who probably were the ancestors of most of the Deckers of the Hudson and Delaware River Valley. I am collecting a list of Decker descendants who may be interested in a Decker family assoc. If you are interested in receiving further info when it is available, send your PO address and e-mail address to me. The plans ae going slowly at this time.
