Fellow Decker Researchers, The following is a list of DECKER marriages listed on my Ancestry® CD for Early American Marriages---Northeast Region. I have no further info than is listed below, but thought some of you folks might be able to use this info. I have broken them down into the areas as they are listed on the CD. The CD states this is NOT an all-inclusive listing, so if your ancestors aren't listed, it doesn't mean there is no record---just that it is not contained on this CD. My huysband is a descendant of Simeon Decker. Please visit my site at rmeservy.byu.edu. This is a homepage for GEDCOMS . Then click on Terry Johnson and a pedigree sheet will come up. It sounds to me like there are possibilities here of connections. Can you see any. OK. Let me do some checking my papers to see what I've got. My mother-in-law recently dumped off all her information that she has collected on all sides of her and her husbands families to me. Of course, nothing on the computer yet. So this may take me a few days. Here's what I have This starts with two immigrants: Jan BROERSEN from Denmark and Jan GERRITSEN from Holland. They both reached America by way of New York. After marrying and starting families, the children of each family took the name of DECKER. The families were unrelated. The son of GERRITSEN married the daughter of BROERSEN, and that is how all descendents became known as DECKERS. Jan GERRITSEN, b. 1640 in Holland md. 23 Mar 1664 in NY to Gretzen WESTERCOUP, b. 1642. My grandmother was Henrietta Decker born 15 Feb 1861 on Staten Island, NY. She had six brothers and sisters, Among them Franklyn Decker born abt 1851, William Abt 1855, Lawrence P. abt 1857, Gabina abt 1859, Lillie abt 1864 and Mamie abt 1866. They lived at a house near the end of a dock, and the whole family was in boat building. Their parents were William H. Decker was born 15 Jan 1828 on Staten Island and he Married Mary Gallagher, who was bor at sea off the coast of England. Her parents were John Gallagher, born in Dublin Ireland, and Sabria Burke, born in New York City. William Decker's father is listed on his death certificate as Mathew Decker and his wife is Martha (Kerrington, Kensington or something like that, but is really unreadable except for the KE part. William Decker was a ships captain, and a boat builder. I understand that they built large vessels but I am not sure. In the late 1800's they moved to Mystic, CT, where he died. His home there is still standing. His sons continued to buid boats in Mystic, but they were mainly small craft. Anybody with any hints on how to trace Williams parents please advise. Thank you Robert D. Leavitt [email protected]

I have a John Decker in my line. He was born in Alexander County, NC in 1828. He is the son of Thomas Christopher Decker Jr. and married Mary. Don't know her last name. I have other information on other Deckers that I will look up this weekend; hopefully there will be a John somewhere. Did not see another John however in the Census records for Burke, Lincoln, Catawba, or Rowan counties in the early 1800s. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 18, 1998 2:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [DECKER-L] North Carolina Decker's Any luck finding a John Decker b. abt 1790-1800 in N.C.?
