Kathy, I recieved 2 messages the same??, my Vencent DECKER,b.abt.1813?? Steuben co,NY. then, Pa., Oh.,Pa.,Oh.,d.1883,Howland Twp. Trumbull co,Oh. This is the one that started my DECKER line. Thanks again. David
Diane, I agree. I really think Count/Clarence DECKER was born SOMEWHERE in Illinois. It was only trough family members on census' after his death, that said he was born in Kansas, and I think that was because his family lived there, so they assumed he was born there. Thanks for your reply, and I will check out that web site. No, I haven't that I remember, what part of the country was he from? Let me know, and I will keep my eye out for him. Most of the states I'm researching for my line of DECKER's is Arkansas, Kansas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri and possibly Penn. My husband is also researching DECKERS in New Jersey and New York. Specifically, Moses DECKER, b. ca 1834 in Sussex County, NJ, married in 1876 ,Mary A. McMickle, dau. of Joseph and Hannah McMickle of Byram, Sussex County, NJ. Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kathy mlydeb wrote: > Kathy, Have you ever run across a,Vencent ( Vincent ) DECKER, in your > travels down DECKER lane?? Thank you.

Hi, My greatgrandmother Louah Alice Decker has an unusual name that I'm hoping one of you might recognize the name Louah in earlier Decker families of the Hudson Valley that might give me clues to my Decker ancestry. For most of her life she was known as Louie. She lived with her father George Decker and her mother Phebe Vandervoort in Gilboa, Schoharie County. Her father was born in Conesville (or Dyse's Manor) in Schoharie County. His father was Tunis Decker born about 1766 and died in 1854. I've seen much of the early families in the Hudson Valley but have been unable to find anything to tie this Tunis to those families. Given the proximity of Gilboa and Conesville to the Hudson Valley, I'd be very surprised if this Tunis wasn't a descendant of one of the Decker lines in the Husdon Valley. Does any of this match with information any of you have?
Hello: I am seeking any connections to my gg grandfather John Albert Decker. I know he was born in 1873 probably in Tipton Co., Indiana. He married D. Pearl Fouch (b.1885) in 1904. Does anyone have this couple? Many Thanks! -Nicole Gorman Seattle, WA [email protected]
Kathy, Have you ever run across a,Vencent ( Vincent ) DECKER, in your travels down DECKER lane?? Thank you.
Pam, thanks for the reply, and I apologize to the list for forwarding all the garbage that went along with it. It was late, I was tired, sorry. Anyway, I only made the link to Simeon DECKER a few days age, by chance, and am still not positive he is my GR GR Grandfather. My Gr Grandfather is Clarence/Count Burton DECKER. I had found references as to his birth being Illinois and also Kansas. Finally, found an 1870 Kansas, Sedgwick County, Wauculla Twp. census, and lo and behold, there he was, listed with Simeon DECKER. DECKER, Simeon M. age 47 Farmer Ohio , Mary D. age 41 Ohio , Count B. age 21 Farmer Illinois , Hannah C. age 18 Illinois , Robert J. age 18 Wisconsin , Ira age 17 Illinois , Arthur age 17 Wisconsin , Frank M. age 16 Wisconsin , Mary J. age 15 Wisconsin , Eliza A. age 12 Wisconsin , Lincoln. D.M. age 9 Missouri , John D. age 9 Wisconsin , Frank J. age 7 Illinois , William age 6 Illinois , Albert W. age 4 Illinois , Susan L. age 2 Kansas Whew!!! Now my immediate assumption was that the children born in Illinois were Simeon's, the children born in Wisconsin were Mary's by a former marriage and little Susan was theirs together. So, off to the National Archives I go to pull the actual census ( I live in Atlanta, and luckily we have a branch here) thinking more info will be available on them. The above is it!!!! I have found another web site with Simeon listed, but my Clarence/Count is not. What I do know about Clarence/Count DECKER: he was born 1849/50 in IL/KS and married my Gr. Grandmother Viola Victoria LUCAS in Madison County, Arkansas, in 1874. Madison County, AR census records, 1880, list him as Count B. Decker, age 30, born in Illinois, Occupation: farmer; Viola Victoria DECKER, age 22, born in AR and Rosa M., age 2, born in Kansas. Rosa was listed as sick with fever/ague and apparently died soon thereafter, as I have never found her listed again. Clarence/Count DECKER was killed in 1893 by a tree falling on him (according to family members). Do you have any info on my Clarence/Count DECKER? If he is not Simeon's son, who is he????? Oh, by the way, also found Clarissa DECKER, age 63, living with Burnham DECKER in the same census. However, could not find any of them in 1880 census. Thanks for suffering through my rambling, hope you can make some sense of it. Will be glad for any imput, pro or con. Kathy
Kathleen wrote: "What I do know about Clarence/Count DECKER: he was born 1849/50 in IL/KS ..." You can be fairly sure he was born in Illinois as there weren't too many people living in Kansas in 1849/50. Kansas became a territory in 1854 and a state in 1861, so only a few areas in the eastern part of the state were settled at that point. Wichita didn't exist anywhere near that early. If he was born in Kansas, it was probably in the Kansas City area (which was not then known as Kansas City) or Lawrence, Leavenworth, or Atchison. Hey all, I'm very curious about this Catherine Decker thread - especially now that "Otsego Co. NY" and "Peter" have been introduced. My best sluthing tells me that my Horace Decker 'could' be part of this family group. He lived and died in MI but everything I know about him tells me he was born (1832) in NY (as his parents were). Anybody know anything about this fellow? Thanks, Diane - in Michigan mailto:[email protected]
Jim, do you know where,Catherine was born?? who were parents?? I have some Decker info. David
David --- Catherine M. Decker was born Dec. 19, 1830, in Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., New York, and was the daughter of Peter and Frinda/Frenda (last name unknown) Decker. Suspect Catherine was oldest or among oldest of their children for she had a sister, Rachel, born Oct. 10, 1851, 21 years Catherine's junior. Also, don't know to what extent Peter Decker and family had been "Americanized." The Foster family to which Catherine married was very English (Foster, Knapp, Smith and Boughton surnames) and had been in the colonies for many generations. Let us know if you know anything about this Decker family. --- Scott
