    1. [DECKER-L] Presley Decker in Indiana
    2. Bev Pease
    3. I am trying to piece together the family of Presley Catt DECKER. He was born abt 1800 in Indiana and died in 1840. He was the son of Luke DECKER and Elizabeth CATT. He married Nancy COLVIN in 1823 or 1828 in Gibson Co., Indiana. I know of two children: Alfred G. DECKER b. 1832 in Gibson Co d. 1900 in Pike Co., Indiana who married Nancy HILLMAN and Elizabeth DECKER b. abt 1829 d. 1879 who married David FREDERICK. I do not know where Presley is buried but have found other family members in Pike Co. I cannot find this family in the 1850 census but there are several DECKER children listed with other families and I am wondering if they come from Presley's family. Any help is appreciated. 3. Hello, List! Awhile back I posted a tiny bit of information about my George DECKER. While I still don't have any dates for him, I recently found out his daughter, Evelyn Goldie DECKER may have been illegitimate, or adopted. This leads me to wonder if her middle name, GOLDIE was her mother's surname. I know Evelyn came from Maryland, USA, and moved to Philadelphia. She married George Dewey HOOPES and they had two children. Evelyn worked as a sleeve-stitcher in a sweater factory. If any of this rings some bells with anyone, please let me know. Thanks, -Courtney in Pennsylvania.

    2. I would like to know your source for the statement that Jan Gerretsen Decker died n Romney, WV. Specifically, you stated these facts: 1 Jan Gerretsen Decker b: 1688 in Kingston, Ulster, NY d: in Romney, WV +Barbara De Witt b: 1692 in Kingston, Ulster, NY m: 1711 .I grew up in Cumberland, MD, near Romney, WV. While I have not studied the local history of Romney and Hampshire County, WV, I recall that there were almost no white settlers in that area until the American Revolution. It seems very unusual that this resident of the Hudson Valley in New York State would have moved to what was then the frontier of the colony of Virginia.

    3. Becky and Patricia, Hi! Unfortunately, I have no dates on my George Decker. All I know is what I posted before, but I do have some more info on his daughter, Evelyn Goldie Decker (my g-grandmother). My father tells me she was from Maryland, USA. I also know that she worked in the garment business, I believe she sewed sleeves in a factory in Philadelphia, PA. She had 2 children, twins, George Dewey Hoopes Jr. and Dorothy Evelyn Hoopes. If I get more information, I'll post it. Thanks for your questions, and sorry I couldn't be more specific! -Courtney Robinson

At 09:07 AM 1/2/99 EST, Mike Burnett wrote: >I too am researching Deckers from the subject >counties. <snip> >One of the wills listed farms in both Columbia Co, and Schoharie >Co. <snip> Mike, That will that lists farms in both Columbia Co and Schoharie Co. just *might* be of great interest to me. Let me explain why. My g(3x)-grandfather Tunis Decker lived in Gilboa, Schoharie County, NY. I have been unable to determine who his parents were. Cynthia ([email protected], a subscriber to this list, too) told me: On page 262 of the Decker Genealogy by Benton Weaver Decker there is a Theunis (the only one in the entire book) b. 1768 and bpt in Shawangunk, Ulster Co., NY. This is definately the Hudson Valley. The book gives no month or day but the bpt. code is S# 572. This fellow is the son of Joshua DECKER b. 1745, d. 1782 and Geertje TERWILLIGER. Besides Theunis, there were 8 other children. Unfortunately, the book does not follow the lines of the children. Cynthia then shows me the lineage from Joshua back to Jan Broerse (DECKER). Would you please peek at that will for me to see who the principals are and if it mentions Tunis/Theunis or Joshua? Or Gilboa? Thanks very much! Regards, Dick Martin in Saratoga, NY

    1. [DECKER-L] Decker Dutchess Co. NY, Ulster Co. Columbia Co.
    2. Carol, Ron, Joan, Diane(s), and Decker researchers, I too am researching Deckers from the subject counties. Here is some background information that might be useful. My Decker line was researched by my Mother, Barbara Decker and Aunt Clair Decker Campbell and a man named Garford Williams . He is a Presbyterian Minister? in Nicholson PA. Rev. Williams, may have gotten his information from Arthur Kelly, of Kinship Pub. Williams has my line going back to Jan Broersen, who married Heltje Jacobs. There is some question as to where Jan Broersen came from. I have seen Holland, Denmark, and Sweden. I'd like to solve that riddle. Anyone know? I have not looked into this line in depth. But I want to start now. In November, I visited my Mother in NY and we went to the Methodist Cemetery in Copake, Columbia Co., NY and there were many Deckers buried there as well as Vosburg, etc. The names were unfamiliar to me, but I recorded as many as I could. We also visited local court houses and looked for deeds and wills. We found quite a few early (1700) documents. The Deckers from Columbia Co. seem to have have money. At that time, they must have been part of the reformed Dutch Church. One of the wills listed farms in both Columbia Co, and Schoharie Co. At some point, my gggg Grandfather Abram Decker moved from Copake, Columbia Co., NY to the Nicholson/Deckertown, Susquahanna Co. PA area. There my ggg Grandfather Henry Decker was born. Abram eventually moved on to Wisconsin, and Henry, stayed in PA. My Grandfather, Henry Decker was born in PA and hi family moved to Geneva, NY. Here is my ancetor table going back 14 generations, or at least this is what I have now. Ahnentafel 2nd Barbara Helen Decker Born 7 Jul 1940 in Geneva, NY. 3rd Henry Milburn Decker Born 18 Jan 1916.(PA) Died 1974.
