Jack, My ancestor, Jan DECKER was b. in Gelderland, Holland. However, before the war, Gelderland was in Germany. Later, the boundries changed. Maybe this was the case with your DECKER ancestor as well. I am in contact with many tourist from Holland and they tell me that DECKER is definately a very common DUTCH name. They have DECKERs there like we have Smith and Jones here. Mike, There is quite a bit of similarity with our DECKER'S. The DECKER'S in Greene, Chenango Co., NY all live in close proximity of each other. Peter DECKER is in my line, b. May 10, 1804, but I don't know where for sure, but my best guess is in Columbia Co., NY. See the next paragraph. This is my biggest stumbling block. He died in Great Bend, Susquhanna Co., PA. Anothe person in my line is his sister Sally. According to the Greene Town Historian's records she was born in Columbia, Co., NY in 1796. She married Simeon Davis. They lived in Greene in the proximity to the other Decker's. I am assuming Philip could be the patriarch. His German birth was reported by the town historian. Prior to this I also throught my Decker's were Dutch. This was based on some passing comments in a Civil War diary of my guncle Albert b. 1841, d. 1874. He led me to Peter and a couple others. My Jacob,b.~1787, d. sometime after 1850, his first wife was Lucinda, b. 1791, d. 1838. This family profile from 1830 through 1860 fits my line. His second wife Sarah, b. 1790, d.~ 1863. He moved to Springfield, Bradford CO. , PA by 1840 and could be my ggrandfather's father. Another of his possible sons, Lewis b. 1826, d.1911, married the next door neighbors daughter. He is in my line. Mant DECKER happenings occured in Bradford Co. with Jacob and decendents as with Henry b. ~1785, d. ?, who was still in Greene in 1840 but moved by the 1850's. His first wife was Dolly, b. 1788, d. 1838. His second wife was Ruth, b. 1796, d. 1894. She ended up living with friends of my ggrandfather's from Potter Co., PA. Unfortunately I do not have those conclusive bits of info to cement some of these key assumptions together. I just keep getting more and more coincidences. The tying facts are out there. Does this info mean anthing to you. By the way we went to a DECKER Reunion (Jan Broerson line) in New Paltz, NY about a year and a half ago. A good contact for this line is Wayne Decker ([email protected]) in Ogden, UT. Lets keep in touch. Regards, Jack Decker Portland, OR [email protected]
Karen My DECKER'S were in Chenango Co., New York until the 1830's and 1840's then went to Bradford Co. and Susquhanna Co. PA. I believe they started in Albany or Rensselaer Co. in the late 1700's. Jack
My great grandfather was "Elzie" or "Elza" His headstone says Elzie, His death certificate says Elza, and the obituaries of two of his children list him as Elza. If the person you are looking for is female, it could be short for Elizabeth, or Eliza, you did not list a sex, but I assumed the person you are looking for is male. Hope this helps, Diane Eaton Hacker

Hello, Has anyone heard of an Oliver Decker born Oct. 1866 in Missouri and married Donna Mondier on Feb 21, 1892 in Crawford County, Arkansas? They are listed on the 1900 census of Sequoyah County, Indian Territory. Any help would be greatly appreciate Brenda
Jack, Your Deckers are not too dissimilar from mine: my gggg Grandparents: 96 Jacob Abram DECKER. Born 24 Apr 1810. Died 1897. 97 Hannah BENEDICT. Born 1814. Died 1892. Both from Copake Columbia Co. and moved to the Deckertown area of Susquehanna Co. PA about 1840s? My Dekcer line is supposed to go pretty far back, all the way to a Jan Broerson, ca. 1650s to New Amsterdam, but I haven't confirmed it. Just curious what source you were able to use to confirm your Philip was from Germany. Hmmm... intriguing.... maybe my Deckers were German. Look forward to sharing Decker info with you. Mike Burnett Phoenix, AZ [email protected] I am trying to get a handle on PHILIP DECKER, b. 1769, Ger., wife Rebecca (2nd wife) b. 1767, Mass; HENRY DECKER, b.~1785, NY; JACOB DECKER, b.~1787, NY; FRANCES DECKER, b.~1795, NY and PETER DECKER, b. 1805, NY. PETER married RHODA BOUTON and moved to Great Bend, Susquhanna Co., PA by 1840. I believe JACOB and HENRY moved to Springfield, Bradford Co., PA by 1840 and 1850 respectively. I believePHILIP is their father. I have solid info on PETER and right time right place info on JACOB and HENRY but nothing concrete.
