Jack, My ancestor, Jan DECKER was b. in Gelderland, Holland. However, before the war, Gelderland was in Germany. Later, the boundries changed. Maybe this was the case with your DECKER ancestor as well. I am in contact with many tourist from Holland and they tell me that DECKER is definately a very common DUTCH name. They have DECKERs there like we have Smith and Jones here. My great grandfather was "Elzie" or "Elza" His headstone says Elzie, His death certificate says Elza, and the obituaries of two of his children list him as Elza. If the person you are looking for is female, it could be short for Elizabeth, or Eliza, you did not list a sex, but I assumed the person you are looking for is male.
