    1. [DECKER] New Listowner
    2. Judy VanArsdale
    3. Hello all, As you've undoubtedly seen Lainee's email this morning, we've changed listowners. (Boy, she gets up early on Saturday.) In explanation - I had a greater work load the last few months and have not had a lot of time to devote to the list. And, I can't see an end to it soon. So, while I was trying to get the Decker message board linked to the list, Lainee mentioned that she had wanted to host the list when she adopted the board, but the list was taken. I offered it. During our emails, I noticed that Lainee is quite knowledgeable about the ins-and-outs of the processes at RootsWeb (something I haven't had time to keep up on), and she appears to have the energy to jump start the list so we all (me included) can enjoy it more. And yes, I intend to still be a member of Decker-L for a good time to come. I can't think of a better group of people to be a part of. You all have been great! Bye, for now, Judy

    3. --=======72C87A80======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-50CA4CC4; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Good morning Decker researchers, You will notice the new admin addy and name. Judy VanArsdale asked me last evening if I would take on the Decker list since I have the message board. Judy is still on the list, and will hopefully be for some time to come, I do not know what her plans are on this matter. My name is Lainee and I tend to be a bit on the lenient side, although there are few things I will not tolerate, which include flaming and sending off-topic messages of any sort without first checking...but I know you all won't do that. Judy tells me what a nice well-mannered group this is and I look forward to getting to know all of you. First thing on the agenda is I want to meet all of you so, later this morning, I am going to send out another email that will hopefully get people posting to list. Good luck and best wishes, Lainee --=======72C87A80=======--

    1. [DECKER-L] School Photograph including DECKER Family member
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old school photograph which appears to have been taken in Connecticut on August 22, 1895. The photograph includes classmates, teachers, and the school principal. The students all appear to be in their teens at the time the photograph was taken. The handwriting on the back is difficult to read but looks like "MB -C.C.F. by do. + advice C.S. BUELL Aug 22 -95" "Alida's WMED '94 Class in part + teachers at "Katapansis" + others". Then all 22 subjects in the photograph are listed: L. FITCH Jas. L. FITCH Miss Alice GREEN Miss TURNER (Teacher) Miss RUDD Miss Ruth DARROW Miss Minnie DECKER Mrs.(Minnie V.E. MILLER)LESTER Mr. BUELL (prin.) FITCH Addie FITCH Bessie FITCH Miss Gertie RYLEY Based on limited research I believe that the group was probably from New London, Connecticut since I find many of these same names there including: Alida S. It looks like he settled in Manorton, Columbia Co. ,NY. By 1810 he had a family of six by his first wife Maritje Bohm. They then moved to Chenango Co., NY . His children were Jacob, Henry Elizabeth, Polly, Peter , Uriah and Frances. Jacob would be my gggrandfather. They then moved to Bradford Co., PA around 1840. One of his children was Rennselaer Dewey Decker who had 125 acres of land, one sawmill and a house. He "transfered" these assets to ANDREW DECKER who at the time was living in Mill City. This is why I'm trying to find out who Andrew is, I am assuming he is an offspring of one of the brothers. Jack

    3. Hi Jack, My names are similar, but probably no connection. Here is my DECKER history - I descend from George Decker, who was a blacksmith. George W. Decker Sr. was born in Copake, Columbia County, NY in 1814 and died in Scranton, PA in 1898. George and his wife Catherine had several children. William H. Decker was the oldest and first born son of 11 children. The other known children¹s names are Catherine, Martin, Mary, Eliza, Clara, George Jr., Edward, Harriet, and Ella. There was supposedly and Addie, but I have never found her. My Eliza A. Decker was born in 1848. My Edward was born in 1857. Was your Andrew Decker born in New York? 3. Hi Marilyn, Judy, Did you try to get the official birth record from the register office of Elizabeth's hometown? Normally that would be the easiest to try as they should be able to give you a copy of the birth certificate which states the names of the parents. I checked and could not find a town or village called Nierderschoftsheim, but I think it must be rather Niederschopfheim. Niederschopfheim is today part of the village of Hohberg in the Black Forest, only 11 kms from Lahr. Both towns are now in the country of Baden-Wuerttemberg, but it could be that they belonged to Bavaria at one time. You can have a look at the English homepage of Lahr, they have quite an interesting history there: http://www.lahr.de/e/fr_menu.php?menupk=1 You should contact the local administration of Niederschopfheim at the following address: Gemeindeverwaltung Freiburgerstr. 30 77749 Hohberg Telephone +49 7808 / 88 0 Telefax +49 7808 / 88 49 E-Mail rathaus@hohberg.de If possible, write in German. But they should understand basic English too. It's recommended to enclose a return envelop if you write by normal post. A copy of the birth certificate will cost you about 7-9 EUR, so maybe you are better off to ask by email first how the document would be sent to you and how you could do the payment. They need the name, date and place of birth and (to be on the safe side) the reason for your inquiry (it's good to state how you are related to Elizabeth). Another good source are the church records of Niederschopfheim which are available with the Mormons on www.familysearch.org: Title Kirchenbuch, 1690-1901 (catholic church records) Authors Katholische Kirche Niederschopfheim (A.
