Good going. The dinner party certainly did "actvate" the Deckers. This motivated me to try again solving the mystery following: The list may be help in solving a long time family mystery. This concerns the DECKERS buried in the WOODARD family plot in Alleghany cemetery Allegany, Cattaragus County NY . I feel Mary must be a WOODARD/WOODWARD. All else has failed but sounds like your Deckers scattered around NY and Steuben county may show up a Miles. MILES DECKER b.1808 d.1894 and Mary DECKER b.1818 d. 1899. Thanks for any help. This is a re-post of my Decker query: I am trying to find the names of the siblings of a William Sanford Decker who was born 14 July 1815 in Deckerstown, Wantage Twp. - or- Hamburg, Hardyston Twp., Sussex Co., NJ (now Vernon Twp.). He married Elvira (Emeline?) Perrigo on December 04, 1847 in Hamburg, Vernon Twp., Sussex Co., NJ. A direct response to George Sweeney at gsweeney@neb.rr.com would be appreciated. I would like to meet Casper Decker /Decher ,my great grandfather at a dinner party. He was born around 1830 in Hesse Darmstadt Germany. He settled in Hamilton,OH Butler County. He served with Ohio 9th Infantry Company B from Camp Dennison and served in the Civil War from 1861-1664. I would loved to ask him the following questions: Who were his parents? Did he have any brothers and sisters? What reasons made him come to the USA? Did he know anyone in Butler County ,OH? I would question him about the Civil War. Also ask questions about his wife Anna Maria Deinzer. What was it like to be married at about 42 and a father at 43.(a son Herman Henry born March 1874 but died as an infant. Casper died at the age of 45 March 1875 of diseases contacted during the Civil War. He never got to see the birth of his daughter Katherine Caroline (my grandmother) born Nov. 26,1875. Ann

The only thing the list admin (me, again) cannot do is: You may not: * Change the overall focus/topic of the list. For example, you may not change a list that focuses on a given surname to exclude all except those from a specific lineage or region. You would need to request a second list with those restrictions if such was your goal. * Close your list by unsubscribing everyone, or by refusing to allow anyone to subscribe. * Archive your list anywhere other than RootsWeb without prior permission. Since what I chose was, and still is, on topic and makes for a nice change of pace from the standard roll call, the Virtual Dinner Party will continue. As previously stated, if you DON'T like the idea you do NOT have to participate. But, creating a scene on the list is NOT the way to get your point across to me, and I seriously doubt anyone else either. Most every list administrator does different things to get the list going. As long as it is genealogy related, then it is ON TOPIC for a genealogy list at RootsWeb, and this is genealogy related. FYI....The List Administrator of the listowners list has what she calls the VLF--Very Large Flyswatter--and periodically the rest of us list admins are allowed to borrow it for the purpose of swatting. The swat generally means that we are banned to the reject list for one week...or until she happens to remember we are there and takes us off! Dear Mr Fillhard Get a life! You evidently are too serious to read and to get the point...Let's try again....."The reasons are only important to you all in that it....will hopefully help you all to find a brick wall that someone else hadn't posted. You can participate or not as you like, but I hope you will so I can try to get to know a little something about where and what time frame you might be searching in." As for your assessment..."why not do it on a site that was made for that purpose and not clutter up all of our mail boxes with information that has no relevance to serious genealogy"....I have been doing genealogy for the last 34 years, but evidently you feel you have a monopoly on "serious genealogy". Not. You do not speak for me nor I suspect for the rest of the list. The choice is yours, participate or not, but in the interim please don't clutter up the list with your complaints. I believe Moses Decker may have lived in Minisink Tsp, Orange,County, NY and possibly in Paradise or Rio area of Deerpark Tsp; Orange, NY, in which both places are close to the Sullivan County line. Afterward he lived possibly in Broome Co. and Tioga Co. or at least his son Joseph did. Joseph married a girl from Deerpark, Ella Mary Goble. There was a W. He also has a headstone in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley, Tioga Co, NY in close proximity to Joseph Deckers grave. I believe they were brothers or at least related but I haven't found any proof yet. I would also like to talk to her about her husband, Elijah Price (born about 1815) and find out if she ever met his parents...or if he indeed came from some far away place and the aliens dropped him on her doorstep! <G> These and a few related questions would probably cover several hours worth of before, during and after dinner conversation. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: DECKER/CHAMBERLAIN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hgR.2ACIB/1782.1.2 Message Board Post: In the past, I drew the same conclusion that Isaac son of John and Balndina (KUYKENDALL) DECKER was the one who married Dorcas CHAMBERLAIN in NJ and settled in Westmoreland County, PA between 1790 and 1800. Then I came across the following information and other data that served to change that thinking. >From an article in the April 4, 1968 in the "Valley Advance" reprinted in the June 1985 issue of the "Trail Tracer" "The oldest of these five Isaac's was Isaac DECKER, son of John DECKER and wife Dina KUYKENDALL (both born in 1719). Isaac was born in VA about 1746 and came to Indiana in 1784 with his parents and several of his brothers and their families. He was old enough to escape the confusion with the younger Isaac's. He acquired land in Knox Co., IN, part of it in 1790 as payment for service in the Indiana State Militia. I can find no record of his marriage nor of any children, nor of his death and estate settlement. He may have moved into Illinois and his records would be there." Since it is believe that Isaac and Dorcas, who settled in Westmoreland County, is the Isaac DECKER family listed in the 1790 census in Cumberland County, PA, then, Isaac, the son of John and Blandina, cannot be the Westmoreland County Isaac as the latter was in Knox County Indiana at the that time.Further, as noted in the article above, Isaac, son of John and Blandina, was born in VA. while Isaac, husband to Dorcas CHAMBERLAIN was in NJ much later as indicated in the issuance of their marriage license April 12, 1769. In addition, Ebenezer (as shown in the 1850 census of Westmoreland County)and John (as shown on his death record in Westmoreland County), sons of Isaac and Dorcas and Eunice their daughter (married to John BRADY and listed as John's wife in the 1850 Westmoreland County census) were all born in NJ in the 1770's. Then, there is an Isaac DECKER shown on the tax records in Hardyston Twp, Sussex Co., NJ in 1774 and 1780. In 1769 Isaac's and Dorcas's marriage license ! was issued in Hardyston Twp., Sussex County, NJ. So, although there could be some doubt that, for example, the Isaac in the tax records in NJ is the Isaac of Westmoreland County. The weight of the evidence is that Isaac son of John and Blandina is NOT the Isaac who settled in Fairfield Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.
What a fun and lovely idea! Thank you for the invitation. :-) My dinner companion would be Johan Peter Decker from Snyder County, PA. He was born 2 Oct 1788 (possibly 1784). He had three wives that I know of, (Maria) Magdalena Schwartz, Catherine Felty, and another Catherine. My question to him would be about the mystery concerning his daughter, Amelia Decker who married Daniel Kuhns. And it would be: "Is Amelia your natural born daughter with a Native American mother, or is it one of her grandparents who was 1/2 Native American? Or was she adopted into the family and there's no Native American blood in your own line? My covered dish: Mom's Oatmeal Cake 1 1/2 cups boiling water 1 cup oatmeal 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup oil 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp soda 2 eggs 1 cup sugar Pour boiling water over oats. Let stand and prepare the following: Mix flour, cinnamon, soda, and salt. Add to the mixture of sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and oil, then add oatmeal mixture. Mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to an hour (keep checking) until done. Topping: 1 stick butter 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup milk 1 tsp vanilla Crushed walnuts Can of coconut (about 5-6 oz or less) Dissolve sugar in milk. Add butter and cook. Stir until it boils and thickens, then remove it from the heat. Add coconuts, walnuts, and vanilla. Pour over cake while warm. Return to oven and broil for 3-5 minutes. ===========================

The first is the prepend for the list. It now says [Decker] instead of [Decker-L]. This is to allow a couple more letters of the subject line to show in your inbox. The other thing you will notice is that I have opened the gateway between the message board and the email list. This was done at the start of the conversation between Judy and myself last evening. It was after that the conversation turned to her giving me the Decker list. In all message board posting you will see a notice at the top that says: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Since they are posting to the boards then chances are they are not onlist and therefore will most likely not get your response if you only reply to list.
