John Dean an English gardener was employed by a gentleman Kirke, whose wife was a lady of rank surnamed Kirkby. They had only the one daughter Susan, who ran away with the gardner. In 1795 the American Vessel which sailed by false pretense under a British Flag for fear of being captured by the English; but during the voyage she was captured by the English and brought into Halifax, Nova Scotia.
