Barb in Kansas All from Crawford Co PA - various dates/years Submitted by: Patricia Butterfield Vedner http://www.toolcity.net/~vedner ********** Mr. & Mrs. Linn O. Slayton were the victims of a very pleasant surprise at their home on Saturday evening, the occasion being the 25th anniversary of their marriage. About 60 relatives and neighbors were present, the visitors bringing material from which a bountiful supper was served. Many gifts in silver were left the couple as remembrances of the anniversary. Their daughters, Misses Margaret, Mildred and Minyon, who are employed in Meadville, were home for the occasion, making a family reunion. The couple were married and have spent their wedded life in Conneautville. Merle Willey, aged 8 years, son of Mr. & mrs. Elmer Willey of Lyona, in eastern Crawford, was killed Monday afternoon by being dragged over a quarter of a mile by a frightened horse. Mr. Willey was at work in the woods on his place and was accompanied by his little boy. When the father finished work, he started for home and the little fellow wanted to ride the horse to the barn. Mr. Willey lifted the boy to the horse's back and the boy started off. He had not gone far, however, before the horse started to play and the boy fell off. His foot caught in the harness, frightening the horse, who ran to the barn dragging the helpless lad with him. Mr. Willey was unable to overtake the horse, and when he reached the barn and released his son, the little fellow was breathing his last. The child's neck was broken, his skull fractured and his body was terribly mangled.
