I am hoping to find someone researching this Dean family that help lead to locating John's parents. According to the 1850 Indiana Jefferson County (Smyrna Twp) records, John is listed as follows: Dean, John 70 Farmer NY Mary 57 England A.C. 28 Farmer NY Mary A. 15 Ohio Argus Shipley 33 NY Alice 10 NY? Camelia ? 3 IN John died 31 Aug 1865 and is buried in the Smyrna Church Cemetery. His wife Mary Ann was born 6 Jun 1793 in England and died 5 Jan 1865 and is buried same place as her husband John. The Argus Shipley is shown in several 1850 Census indexes are Argirs? Now, also buried in Smyrna Cemetery is an Agnes Dean Shipley, w/o J.W., b. NY d. 23 Feb. 1848 age 72 years. I wonder if she was John's sister? The son A.C. Dean could be Archibald C. Dean, b. 4 Dec. 1822 and died 1 Apr. 1891. The daughter Mary A. Dean, married John Ritchie and they are shown on the 1860 Census in Smyrna . John and wife Mary died in 1865; however, I have been unable to locate them on the 1865 Census. They must have been on their way to Indiana and Mary was pregnant with daughter Mary and gave birth in OH. I'm just guessing. Seems to be a large age gap between A.C. and Mary. I suppose there were other children that were grown with their own families in 1850 and I guess haven't made the connection yet. Has anyone out there heard of this Dean family?
