To C. Dean and interested Dean researchers: Thank you for your prompt reply. I am in the midst of "documenting" my Woolsey family and am presently reading every record I can find for Ulster County, New York. The fact that the Deans married into the Woolsey family and both were from Ulster Co., NY and then appear as neighbors in Washington Co., VA on the South Fork of the Holsten river, is evident to me that there are close connections. But, as you say, proving it is another thing, which I am attempting to do. Jedediah Dean was in New Paltz, Ulster, New York, in an 1765 Tax list. Your help is greatly appreciated and yes, I do want to work with you on these families. Thank you. Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker
Mr. Whitaker, I am descended from Jonathan Dean, born abt 1772, in Ulster County, New York. He married Mary Cole. He migrated to Washington Co., Virginia, Henderson Co., Kentucky, Edwards Co., Illinois and finally to Searcy County, Arkansas where he died 10-9-1853. He is buried in the Horn Cemetery in Searcy County and I have a picture of his tombstone. It is of natural stone, large slabs of limestone, and the dates are handcarved. A lot of people think that he is descended from the Jonathan Dean, Sr. and Jedediah Dean but I'm not sure that anyone can prove it. I will help you all that I can with these Dean children.
To interested Dean Descendants: Jedediah Dean b. abt 1720, Essex County, New Jersey, died 17 Nov 1781, New Platz, Ulster, New York. md abt 1739 to Ariontyea Van Winkle, d/o Gideon Van Winkle and Annetje Koemans, of Somerset county, New Jersey. Jedediah Dean left a will in New Paltz Precinct, in which he lists his wife Ariontyea, sons: Gideon, Jedediah, Isaac, Jonathan Sr.), Daniel & Abraham. Daus: Jenny Ellsworth, Elizabeth Wolsey & Mary Laroe. 20 Jul 1781 - 17 Nov 1781. Their son Jonathan Dean (Sr.) md Mary Woolsey and evidently moved with Mary's father Rev. Thomas Woolsey and family to the South Fork of the Holsten River in Washington County, Virginia, bef 1771, where Jonathan Dean is right next door. Elizabeth Dean (above) md Stephen Woolsey (it is thought by some researchers). I am particularly interested in the WOOLSEY family, but would like to complete the families of these DEAN children. If anyone has information concerning this branch, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for your help and interest. Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker

Hi all, We are currently researching my Husband's family, and are looking for any details about the following. Herbert DEAN b. 1909, West Derby near Liverpool? m. 8th Aug. 1936 Ivy Lilian LOCK b. 1909, West Derby near Liverpool? Herbert's father is named William John DEAN on his marriage certificate. Having looked at the 1881 census we think that William John's parents may have been Joseph DEAN, b. 1836, Chorlton Cheshire and Mary b. 1836, Malpas Cheshire. Unfortunately Herbert, Ivy and 2 of their children Eric (my husband's father) and Brenda are deceased and we have lost contact with Ronald the only surviving member of the family, so we have very little details. Does anyone know of this family? Thank you in advance. Albert Dean married Jane Dalzell Sept. 27, 1832 in Marion, Ohio. Their daughter Rush Dean married Gordon Armstrong Stewart. Rush died in 1859. I think that Rush and Gordon had a son, Oscar Dean Stewart. Gordon Armstrong Stewart's sister, Anna Stewart, married William Dalzell Dean Feb. 11, 1869, probably in Hardin Co., Ohio. I am betting that William is the son of Albert and Jane Dalzell Dean and Rush's brother. Does anyone know anything about this family?

As i recall Rev Francis Dane (note the spelling) was of Mansfield,Mass. 1830's or so. For my particular usage - John Gilbert and Harriet Dana(?) were closely tied somehow - to the Rev John Parker Boyd Storer of Cambridge Mass - who officiated some marriages or was pastor at Walpole. Two of John and Harriets children were named James Boyd Gilbert and Robert Storer Gilbert. The Rev John Parker Boyd Storer was the son of Woodbury Storer of Portland Maine and Cambridge Mass. he was married to Margaret Boyd daughter of James Boyd - who was the son of Robert Boyd. Note the usage of James Boyd, Robert and Storer. I have seriously considered that Harriet was illegitimate and wish i knew if Foxboro or Walpole town minutes were in existence between 1790 and 1820. for examination. John and Harriets chidlren were .. George, John Henry,Samuel Augustus(my ancestor),James Boyd,Robert Storer,Francis Edward, Daniel Webster, and Harriet. one more addendum to this babble ... Thomas Gilbert the emigrant at Taunton - half of his children married into the Deane family at Taunton,Mass. as well as the Williams family who also married into the Deanes. Luther Deanes grandmother was also a Deane. There are strong ties to the Deane family and the Gilberts. I have scowered the Dana Gen so many times i could recite verbatim.
