I hope someone on the Dean list can help me. I am trying to find James Luke Dean, b. 1849 in Kentucky to Thomas Jay Dean and Nancy Emily McKinney. James was married to Josephine Fitzpatrick, divorced in 1882 in Denver, Colorado. Had three chilren with Josephine, only one survied to maturity, which was my g-grandfather, Guy Rodman Dean. I can not find James Luke or Guy Rodman Dean anywhere. James Luke Dean was living in Hot Sulphur Springs, Grand County, Colorado; elected Road Overseer in 1889 and from there I lose him. I can't find him anywhere. He is not buried in Hot Sulphur Springs, only his parents are buried there. Guy Rodman Dean is also a mystery to my family. He married Sarah May Allen, and on her death in 1908 is sent to Colorado State Prison. Was released on parole in 1912 and released from parole in 1914, according to prison records. Prison records can not tell us where he went. Does anyone know of these two men? Any help appreciated. Dee Yeager dyeager@televar.com

This was passed on to me from another rootsweb. We are people to whom the past is forever speaking. We listen to it because we cannot help ourselves, for the past speaks to us with many voices. Far out of that dark nowhere which is the time before we were born, men and women who were flesh of our flesh and bone of our bone went through fire and storm to break a path to the future. We are part of the future they died for; they are part of the past that brought the future. What they did--the lives they lived, the sacrifices they made, the stories they told, the songs they sang, the food they ate and, finally, the deaths they died -- make up a part of our own experience. We cannot cut ourselves off from it. It is as real to us as something that happened last week. It is a basic part of our heritage as human beings.
