In response to many questions, perhaps this will help. If you have a map of Nova Scotia, heading north east from Halifax eventually along Highway 224 and the Musquodoboit River, you will find Middle Musquodoboit, Center Musquodoboit, and then Upper Musquodoboit (where Dean Settlement is found) all in Halifax County. If you continue you are then into Colchester County and Stewiacke and around the turn in the road you end up in Truro. The "DEAN PIONEER CEMETERY" is in Dean Settlement of Upper Musquodoboit along the DEAN BACK ROAD. It is on part of the original land grant given to John, sons James, John, and William on September 8th, 1810. Sheila Dean Winnipeg

Does anyone know of a connection of any sort between any Deans and Jerraulds (spelling?), probably in Georgia, SC, TN and/or MS, in the early to mid-1850s? S.M. Hitt
I've noted the Thomas Dean/Betsy Achord marriage in Georgia before and have wondered if that is the same Thomas Dean who was not much later than that in Hardeman Co. TN, and then also possibly the same Thomas Dean who went to Tippah Co. MS about 1840 or so. Am quoting from memory on this, so dates not exact. Have wondered if this is my Salina Dean's father or brother. If anyone has further info on THOMAS DEAN, would love to hear from you. S.M. Hitt TamieTann@aol.com wrote: > > Wow, I forgot I had this. To those working on DEANs in Ozark, Dale Co. Alabama, there were alot of DEANs there on Logan Rd. Ozark, Al ... I had lived there in 1978, when my husband worked for OPD, we went to another part of Ala when he got on with the State Troopers. we are now in PA retired.. met alot of very nice folks one would ever want to know... the DEANs... I was not working on the family tree back then, never knew there was a connection. Maybe the bond was good because of the connection or just great people ? The ones I had known were older, but, I am sure their grandchildren would still be around.. a Mrs. Dean who was my neighbor was up in years, she would bounce my son on her knee and sing songs to him, Scott who is now 21 yrs. I am sure her Grandchildren or Great-Grandchildren are still around. Her son did live on the same Rd. at the time, he was a farmer. My Dean tree was from Floyd Co. KY and Wayne Co. WVa... Abe and Sally DEAN WIREMAN were my 4th G-Parents from Floyd Co. they are on the 1820 Floyd. Thanks, Patty Simpkins Cartwright [ from PA ]
"The Deane Family" NEHGR 3:4 (Oct 1849), p. 387 states that Zipporah Deane, wife of Benjamin Deane, was the daughter of John Deane who married Hannah Bird, 21 Sep 1699 in Taunton, Massachusetts. However, I cannot find any other children of this couple. (They have no children born in Taunton) Does anyone know where this family resided? Were there any other children? Is there a documented source for this family? Thank you. I will gladly share any info I have found. Hal Bradley

TN in 1812, and from later census records both say they were born in NC. She was born in about 1790 and fits into your time frame. Among the many Edgecombe Co. people who settled in early Sumner Co., were Thomas and Henry Bloodworth. Two of Thomas's grandsons married daughters of Obedience and Jacob in Sumner in ca 1840. I would appreciate any help you can give me in my search. Joyce
Viewing the world from the shelter of his fine and self-earned farm in Walnut Grove Township, McDonough County, Earl M. Byers may well congratulate himself that his lines have fallen in pleasant and profitable places, and that his occupation is one for which nature and inclination have admirably fitted him. A native son of Illinois and born in Hancock County, November 3, 1861, he is the oldest of the three sons and one daughter of WILLIAM AND EMILY (TUCKER) BYERS, the former born in Pennsylvania, and the latter in Illinois. William Byers moved with his family from Hancock to McDonough County in 1874, and there conducted general farming until his retirement from active life to his present home in Macomb in 1891. His children all are living, but he has been a widower since the death of his wife, April 10, 1905. With such aids to back him as a common school education and thorough agricultural training under his father, Earl M. Byers embarked upon a self-supporting life on a farm east of Raritan, Henderson County, this state, where he remained three years. In the spring of 1887 he purchased 161 acres of land in section 17, Walnut Grove Township, which land he has greatly improved, adding, besides a variety of modern implements, a residence constructed in 1902, and a barn of more recent date, costing $2,000. Besides raising grain and other products which thrive in the central west, he is an extensive breeder of Shorthorn cattle, and in addition to the facilities required for successfully conducting his business, has surrounded himself and wife with the comforts and even luxuries of existence. His home is unexcelled for architectural and general appropriateness in the township, and his standing as a farmer and citizen is an enviable one. On September 10, 1885, Mr. Byers was united in marriage to BESSIE DEAN, a native of Illinois and the seventh in order of birth of the six daughters and two sons of MICHAEL AND SUSAN (CUMMINGS) DEAN. Mr. Dean was born in Bath County, KY, and his wife is a native of the vicinity of Greenoch, Scotland. The latter came to America with her parents when five years old, and was married in Fulton County, Ill., to Michael Dean on March 10, 1842. In 1856 the family moved to their present home in Warren County, where was solemnized the marriage of their daughter, Bessie and Mr. Byers. In politics, Mr. Byers is a Democrat. A broad minded and intelligent farmer, a promoter of education and morality, he is a capable exponent of the highest tenets of agricultural science.

I'd like to invite everyone researching the LAMM surname to join the LAMM-L or LAMM-D mailing list, and DEANS researchers to join the DEANS-L or DEANS-D list, both at Rootsweb. These are fairly new lists and we need new subscribers to generate discussions and hopefully make some much needed connections. I'm sure everyone knows how to subscribe to these lists, so I won't waste space here repeating the procedure. Thank you. Hope to hear from you! G.
