The elder Bartley DEAN died en route to Wisconsin (in about 1858 and is buried at Prairie Du Chien in Crawford County. The family settled in the St. Croix County area. Could not get any information on Bartley from the Cemetery. That is all I know. Any information would be appreciated. 1. TN Deans
    2. Now, don't get your hopes up with that subject. my ggg-grandmother Obedience Dean married Jacob Strator in Sumner Co., TN, in 1813. They remained in Sumner until their deaths in the 1870s. She was born in NC in about 1790. There was a family of Dean living in Robertson Co., TN ~~ right next door to Sumner ~~ throughout the same period. The Robertson Co. Dean who also connects to my relatives, Thomas Dean, is probably about the same age as Obedience, but I don't know if they are related. In addition to Thomas, names associated with that family are Elija and Frances "Fanny." I believe they are related, because the daughter of Jacob and Obedience gave one of their sons the name of Mills Taylor. Mills Taylor was a close in-law to the family those Deans connect to. I know of no other Dean family in Sumner County in those early years, but I think there were others in Robertson. Good luck. Joyce

    1. James Dean 1760-1838 , NC > KY
    2. I would appreciate any information on my gggg-grandfather James Dean, born 1760, died 1838, in Jessamine County, Kentucky. In about 1782, he married Patience Holeman, in Rowan County, North Carolina. By 1786, they were in Jessamine County, Kentucky. I have not been able to attach any parents to James. All I know is James and Patience is this: "...James Dean and Patience (Holeman) Dean, the maternal grandparents of William J. Turner, natives of North Carolina and of English descent, were among the early settlers of Kentucky, and found it necessary to go into Craig's station in order to protect themselves from the depredations of the Indians. They afterward settled in Jessamine County. James Dean was a soldier in the Revolutionary war..." They had 12 children. Their son Thomas Holeman Dean 1800-1877, was my ggg-grandfather. Any information regarding the parents of James would be greatly appreciated. I know who the parents of Patience Holman were, but not James. Thanks Josh D. Dean

    2. Len and Mazie Nolder
    3. I have been out of circulation for a bit and am wondering what is all the discussion about a roll call? I am researching the Dean family from TN and MO circa 1860 and prior. Members include: A. J., his wife, Mahala, their children, Isaac, George, and Luke T. and Joley (Julia), and granddaughter Susan (my ggrandmother). All were living in Webster county, MO in the mid to early 1800's but were originally from somewhere in TN. Thanks, Mazie

Dean was married to Doc Kelsay or William Franklin Kelsay they had a son by the name of Thomas Ethan Kelsay or alias Bird (Birtha) E. Kelsay. Martha was born 1858. Bird was born 1875. They may have had a daughter by the name of Emma who was 8 mos old on the 1880 census when Doc Kelsay married Susan Safrona Herd. I am not sure as to weather or not Emma was Martha's or Safrona's very good possibility that she was Martha's and Martha died in child birth. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY DEATH INFO ON MARTHA c. DEAN KELSAY. BELOW IS THE ONLY INFO I HAVE.... Looking for info on the family of Martha C. Dean daughter of John C. Dean of Missouri. This is the marriage certificate for Martha: Marriage Index: Tennessee, 1851-1900 Kelsay, William F. Spouse : Dean, Martha C. Wm. married Elizabeth Woody Mar. 7, 1865 in McMinn Co. I have nothing on Susan. Nancy M. married John F. Dean, because they appear, married, in Polk Co. in 1880, I think it is. John F. Dean is Nancy's first cousin, I think, because he is the son of James Dean, and I never proved it, I don't think, but I thought he and John C. were brothers. Nancy died in Polk Co., MO March 20, 1875, and is buried in Callaway Cemetery here. John F. married 2 or 3 more times, and I don't know what happened to him, at this time. I don't have anything on Mary E. Next is my Sarah Elizabeth line, which I have a lot of descendants on. I have nothing on Martha C. or on John C. Minerva Ann married Leander Fulbright Aug. 19, 1877 in Polk Co., MO and she died Sept. 10, 1923 in Polk Co., and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery here. Margaret M. married John F. Senter Aug. 29, 1875 here in Polk Co., and I think they migrated to Wash. state. I did have some info on descendants, but it is filed WAY away now. Anyway, I have never found where my Sarah and Wm. F. McKinney married, in 1873, and suspect the Deans followed them to Polk Co. after they married somewhere else. Then, the other Dean marriages, etc, start in Polk Co. 2. Victoria Dean
    3. A agree with the below. I know I am going to offend someone about what I am about to say, so I am sorry ahead of time. I personally think it is a bit nit picky for people to be worrying about what is in the subject line for a roll call. All the other...multitude....of mailing lists I am on are not that nitpicky. Give all of us a little break, folks. We are just trying to get our family lines done, anyway we can. And if that includes calling for a Roll call, then so be it. I check out EVERY message I get from this mailing, even if the subject line doesn't include names I am researching. I check it out just in case there is a similarity. Victoria Dean ----I vote yes......both approaches have there place in genealogicalresearch......Nola in WA---

    2. In a message dated 1/5/00 5:40:04 AM Eastern Standard Time, PAYNE9@webtv.net writes: > An answer to a no vote on roll calls. Meant for my reply to go to list. > I vote yes as I say below!!! Yes, to both approaches to genealogical > research. Nola > Jeri says it better than I do >>Date: 1/4/00 From: Jlktrees@aol.com I am sending this to all the lists I originally sent to, as have had so many queries as to what would be the correct way. I never started these ROLL CALLS, but have gained things from them. Thought the following might be more explanatory. My way serves the same purpose as a ROLL CALL, but I think fits in with the purpose of the mail lists which do not allow ROLL CALL. I sure didn't envision all these questions I have been receiving from new members wondering what is correct. I am not an expert, but am giving hints to help all of us. You can still participate in a ROLL CALL. The idea was for the members to get the names they are researching out on the Internet again and they called it a ROLL CALL. I think you should put the surname of the person you are researching in the subject line with perhaps even an approximate date. Example BROWN early 1800s. Then in the letter you could be more specific if you choose. I would also send an e-mail for each name. This way each name you are searching gets undivided attention. I don't think that a ROLL CALL with just a list of names serves much purpose, as we never know what years are involved or anything else. The ones I benefited from were the ones who had a list of surnames in the subject line and then a few more details in the body of the message. Roil Call tells us nothing and when you are rushed or as busy as many of us are, we tend to delete and never look and you are cheating yourselves as well as others because the answer might be there, but no one opens it to find out. There is room to do 2 or 4 names in the subject line. Perhaps Brown, Jones, Smith 1800s. This tells everyone a lot. As has been pointed out to me, this is also a problem for the Archives. Can you imagine going into the Archives and checking to see if in the past several years someone was searching your name so you can contact them, and there you find 1000 queries titled ROLL CALL? Would you open those or skip them? Just think you might miss that connection you have been searching for for years. Hope this clarifies my thoughts and does serve everyone's purpose.
