I am searching for parents of Obedience Dean who was born about 1790 in NC and married Jacob Strator in Sumner Co., TN, on 6 Jun 1813. This family lived in Robertson Co. and Sumner Co. TN. She is probably related to Thomas Dean and Margaret McIntosh whose son Elijah was born about 1817. This family lived in Robertson Co., TN. >From the Logan Co., KY Deed Abstracts 1792-1813 by Joyce Martin Murray, I find the following: Page 548 Indenture (Binding out) 20 June 1802 Samuel Caldwell, Clk of Logan Co, binds out Thomas Deen to Ninian Edwards until he is 21 yrs old. He is to be taught to read and right (sic) & common arithmetic including the rule of three, etc. I don't know what if any connection this Thomas Deen had to the TN Dean families, but Logan Co., KY adjoins Robertson Co., TN and did adjoin Sumner Co. until 1819. People moved back and forth from Robertson and Sumner Counties to Logan Co., quite often. Add to that the fact that the state line was in dispute for many years, its wise to consider these counties together. In addition to the McIntosh and Strator families mentioned above, my Bloodworth and Gordon families are connected to this line, and the Taylor, Mason, Burr, and Robey families of Robertson Co are connected as well. I have been looking for the parents of Elijah DEAN b. 11-15-1819, we assumed Gwinnett Co, GA. d. 3-19-1907 Cherokee Co, GA. He married Eliza L. Fowler 1842 in Cherokee Co, GA. Elijah was orphaned by the age of 10 which means sometime before 1829. In the 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery there is a fortunate draw for Wm, Mary, and E. Dean, orphans, 404th, Gwinnett Co, GA. They drew land lot 98, Eighth District, Third Section - which ends up in what became Murray County. In an obscure little book, Land Lottery Papers, in the Cobb Co. Library this weekend I found the following entry on page 246 " Cherokee County: Lot 98-8-3 Cherokee. Pers. came ELIJAH DEAN and MARY DEAN, the only surviving children of ARCHABALD DEAN. dec'd of Gwinnett County. to claim lot 98-8-3. Signed Elijah Dean and Mary Dean (by mark) before RUSSELL JONES, J.P. 18 March 1843. Because of information I had on Elijah, I have looked at several Dean families in GA during 1820. Now I checked for Archi\abald DEAN in GA 1810 and 1820...no luck. I went on to SC ( no luck), then NC. In Stokes Co, NC in the 1820 census I came across an ARCHIBALD DEAN with male members 1-under 10, 1 16-26, 1 26-46; female members 1 under 10, 1 26-46. Hi, I'm new to this list, so I don't know if this person has ever been covered; please bear with me. Looking for information on Jacob Dean (b. ca. 1818 in Pennsylvania) and his wife, Sophia ? (b. ca. 1823 in PA). They were living in Armagh Twp., Mifflin, PA during the 1850 & 1860 census. They had children Amos, Simon, Elizabeth, Amelia, Catherine, Isaac (Harrison), Sarah, William, Mary, Sophia, Margaret, and Henry. Their oldest son Amos (my direct ancestor) was born 27 Mar 1841 at Armagh Twp. By some point during the Civil War, Amos had moved to St. Joseph Co., Michigan, where he enlisted in August 1864. After the war, he married Susan Dean (supposed to be his 2nd cousin). They had six children and eventually settled in Olivet County, South Dakota. In the Mifflin County censuses, there are other Deans living close to my Jacob & Sophia Dean and with similar ages. There is a Henry Dean & family (Henry age 35) in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census there is a Joseph Dean & family (Joseph age 39). In the 1850 census there is an older couple, Valentine & Elizabeth Dean (ages 69 & 67, respectively) living very near Amos & Henry Dean. Could these be the parents of Jacob Dean? Does anyone on the list have any information about WALKER DEAN, born 1824 somewhere in Ohio, died 1897 9n Newville, DeKalb County, Indiana. He married Rebecka Thornsburg in Ohio possibly in 1844. Their daughter Mary Melissa was born in Ohio on 8-10-1857. She married Joel Braumiller and lived in the Dayton area in Ohio. Following his early death she moved to Newville, possibly because her parents had moved there, and later married John Whitehurst. I recently located Walker's grave in the Newville cemetery next to those of Melissa and other members of her family. The stone is practically illegible, but I was able to read the dates. On the side of the stone is an unreadable name of a son of Walker. DeKalb Count has a death record for a DEEN (no first name given) who died 3/6/1897 in Newville. It gives his age as 91, which would be incorrect if it is Walker. It does give the place of birth as Ohio and his father as Walter Deen, born in Germany. Does any of this sound familiar to any on the Dean list? I've had a hard time trying to find any information. Pat Kelly
