Hello ! I added some items to my ALA ANCESTRY Home Page. Among other things.... 1. Put a GED2WWW file with a master list of 3939 names, over 800 surnames. 2. Added well over 200 names to the CARPENTER tree. These names came mostly from Mrs. Ross's book and were the more recent ancestors. 3. Added John Allen BRAMLETT death certificate, wedding license and Bible record. 4. Added a letter from Charles SPRAYBERRY describing his ancestry from Francis Marion SPRAYBERRY, Sr. on down. 5. Put my AVERY page back up. Placed "Caution!" labels on the Thomas Avery, Sr. d.1761 line and made some modifications. I left all the other ancestry outlines on my page and added the master index as I just got Familytreemaker's 6.0 version and it made it simple to connect even sidelines together into one tree. Let me know if you see any mistakes (I know there must be some). Thanks for everybody's help. The simularity of the names are amazing. I have an Elbert Dean, b. ca 1822 in SC in DeKalb County. I've tried to prove his father as Samuel but nothing so far. His mother, Elizabeth, is next door in 1850 with siblings Wiley, Frances, Amanda, Zacheriah. Elizabeth is HOH in 1840 Census also and the only Dean in 1830 is Samuel (or Lemuel). Also in Dekalb in 1850 are: Hiram Dean b. ca 1810, SC; Jefferson Dean, b. ca 1803, SC; Lemuel Dean, b. ca 1801, SC. There is a Henry, b. ca 1811, NC. There is a Samuel Dean in Edgefield Dist in 1820. Elizabeth, mother of Elbert, was b. ca 1804, SC. Can anyone help sort these or make connections to SC? Hi DEAN listers, This is a continuation of my posting of yesterday about the cemeteries that were moved when the Raystown Dam was built. All of the following except the [notes] was copied verbatim from LDS microfilm #0900626. DEAN Cemetery Location: Juniata Twp., Huntingdon Co., Pa. about 3 miles S from Hawn's Bridge, just off Twp. Rt. #31032. Collected by Mrs. Wm. Cremer and her brother, Mr. Berley Parks. [note: this obviously is a different cemetery from the DEAN cemetery in the Corps of Engineers information I posted yesterday. See OLD GRUBB Cemetery, below.] DEAN Alexander d 21 Nov 1888 ag 63-7-0 Two brownstone markers- babies / Hannah (Norris) & Abraham DEAN [note: I believe this means that the two babies were children of Abraham and Hannah (Norris) Dean. This same microfilm contains a page of information from the bible of Abraham and Hannah (Norris) Dean which I copied if anyone is interested.] [note: Also buried in this cemetery were nine other persons surnamed HAWN, OSWALD, SPECK and PEARSALL who died between 1869 and 1931.] OLD GRUBB Cemetery In Old Grubb Cemetery just above Dr. Wehrle's Cottage on Raystown Dam are: William DEAN d 8 Mar. 1853 ag 71-7-0; Thomas DEAN d 22 Apr 1823 ag 47y; Catherine, w/o Thomas d 29 Oct. 1862 ag 79-8-12 and others. All to be reinterred in White Ch. Cem. [note: this appears to be the cemetery the Corps of Engineers called the DEAN cemetery.] RIDENOUR Cemetery 2 mile below Hawn's Bridge, Juniata Twp., Huntingdon Co., Penna. David, son of T. & L. Some of these people are mentioned in Africa's Hist. of Huntingdon and Blair Cos. Pge. 302, 303, 304. [note: this very probably is the Ridenour Cemetery shown on the Corps of Engineers map on the northwest side of the Raystown Branch about a mile south of the Raystown Dam. If so, this would have been one of the cemeteries moved by the Corps when they built the dam. I don't know why the Corps did not send me their reinterment information on this cemetery. If anyone is interested in pursuing this further, there is a note on this microfilm to the effect that the Huntingdon County Historical Society has a copy of the Corps' records.] Larry Dean Vancouver, WA, USA
Hi listers, Further to my message of last night on the above subject: Another old map I found today shows the Raystown Branch flowing eastward through a place marked "Raystown (Fort Bedford)" which is definitely the place now called Bedford. >From there the Raystown Branch flows eastward along what is now U.S. 30 and I-70 for about 10 miles before it turns and flows northward.
