I was talking to him ten days ago on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 6th & 7th streets. Yes, the identical Sam Davis mentioned, nephew of Col. Sam Davis, the hero of Lewes, Delaware in 1812, when the British tried to land there. This Sam Davis, who was thrice sentenced to hang and twice to be shot, still lives and is the same dammed rebel as he was in '63 and '64. Actually, Capt. Sam Davis is a fine old gentleman. J.T.
