Rowing his boat closer he started to strike it with an oar when the animal attacked his boat and nearly over-turned him before he could kill it. He found it to be a large black otter, which meassured five and one-half feet in length. The skin of the animal netted him $20 when sold to a Lewes fur dealer. This was the first otters to be caught in the past forty-nine years near Lewes according to SAMUEL C.
