He asked permission to tie his shoe laces before being escorted down the street and received it. In a moment, when the constables vigilance was diverted, Holland darted upstairs, took a flying leap from a second floor window and quickly outdistanced the officer who sent everal bullets after him, none of which reached the fleeing Holland.
