Article Date: July 15 1920 Article Description: Child Lost Wading at Lewes Beach. Article Text: Lewes, Del., July 14, 1920: Slipping ftom a life preserver with which he was trying to float, the six year old son of JOHN ROGERS, a Lewes merchant, was drowned off Lewes Beach not over twenty feet from shore. The child had been paddling around the beach and with a large cork life preserver was supposed to be perfectly safe. In some way the child slipped out of the straps and sank in deep water. It was not until supper time that the child was missed. A search revealed that he had last been seen around the beach.
