The fishermen urgently favor the bill, while merchants, tradesmen, hotel keepers and some others vehemently oppose it. The contending faction keep the town in turmoil. Delegations from both sides were before the legislative committee this afternoon. Their statements were flatly irreconcilable. The fishermen contend that the factories are ruining their business and are a grievious public nuisance. The opponents hold that the factories have not injured the fishermen and that they are a great public benefit, contributing largely to the town revenues and to the generaal prosperity.
