The rooms was crowded to suffucation and the solemn services had just begun when there was a crash of breaking timbers nd in an instant two score persons were struggling in the cellar. The casket containing the body slid down the broken floor and fell at the feet of some of the frightened mourners. The greatest confusion prevailed and many of the women nearly fainted. Women and children screamed and struggled in a vain endeavor to get out of the cellar. The broken timbers had fallen across the cellar door making egress imposible in that direction. A number of citizens rushed to the rescue and with the aid of ropes succeeded in hauling the frightened people to the surface. Ropes were placed under the casket and it was tenderly lifted to the street. The body was taken to a neighbors and the funeral services were held th! ere.
