Article Text: Lewes, Del., Jan 8, 1913: Just found after a disappearance of over a half century, an old cannon which had been used for many years of celebrations in Lewes was brought to light yesterday and last night the whole town awoke with its roar until the enthusiam of the young men of the town and the supply of powder gave out. For years the old cannon was used for political celebrations, but when Abraham Lincoln was nominated for the Presidency the Republicans went to get the cannon for their celebration only to find the Whigs and Democrats had combined to hide it and it had disappeared from its accustomed place. A search was made for several months, the creek was prodded, all to no avail. The search was given up and forgotten except for a few old men of town. A short time ago, one of these men, on his death bed, revealed its location and told the story of him being one of the men who helped hide it. Yesterday, a crowd of young men went to the place described and found the cannon buried in a field. It was brought to town last night and the first notice of its recovery was heard when its roar sounded over the town.
