Especially, the lower end of the beach, known as Dewey Beach, suffered. There twenty-five of twenty-eight cottages have been washed away. At Rehoboth Beach the life saving station and the Baltimore YMCA Summer House are gone. Houses on the northern end of the beach are still standng but the fine front yards and cement sidewalks are washed away. The crew of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse have removed their things and expect to see the old lighthouse swept out to sea during the 10 o'clock high tide tonight. It is impossible to ascertain the real damage at Rehoboth Beach, as at every tide a few more cottages are gone. Automobile travel is impossible to the beach as the water is over the canal bridge and only by the railroad tracks can the trip be made. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
