Article Text: Lewes, Del., Dec.12 1911: Grangers from all over Delaware came here today to attend the three day annual convention of the State Grange which opened today. S. HARRINGTON MESSICK, of Bridgeville, is presiding during the sessions in the Auditorium. Memebrs of the United States Grange are expected here to take part in support of the progressive end of the National Grange. It is understood that Delaware Grange is favorable to the movement. A separate college for women at Newark in connection with the State school for men is a movement that has gained great ground among the grangers during the past year and action of some sort will be taken. There is now no school for women in the State and girls from Delaware are compelled to go to Pennsylvania and Maryland in the absence of even a Normal School. The initative and referendum, the parcels post, the reciprocity treaty with Canada and the shipment of liquorinto dry territory are subjects that will receive action. The principal speakers will be Governors PENNEWILL, of Delaware and CROUTHERS, of Maryland, and DR. WILEY, the pure food advocate of Washington, D. C. During the sessions the sixth degree will be conferred by a picked degree team. The sessions will be concluded Thursday evening with a banquet at which all fourth degree members are invited. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
