H. Stevens, formerly of Seaford, Del., opened an oyster packing house here today. Three other oyster packing houses of Seaford, of which Mr. Stevens establishment was the largest, have closed their doors and will not reopen there this winter. The trouble arose from striking among the shuckers. They first struck for 15 cents a gallon and their demands were complied with. They then struck again for 20 cents a gallon and again the packers met the strikers demand, but after the supply of oysters on hand had been exhausted , the packers met and agreed not to shuck another oyster in Seaford this season. Mr. Stevens moved to Saliabury, and the other packers went to Cristfield and Cambridge. The removal from Seaford will cause considerable loss to the town. The packing house here, today, opened with 30 shuckers which will increase the first of the week to 50 and will shuck 300 gallons a day. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
