The Rockland course was placed at a disadvantage only from the fact that the Breakwater was closer. Pilot CHARLES CLAMPITT, a Lewes pilot, was largely instrumental in having the department adopt the course and will have charge of the test runs of the boats. The Ocean House has been made headquarters for Navy officers and officials of the building companies, and will be reserved for them when trials are made. The new torpedo boat, Roe, is being tested this week and will be followed by others all summer. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Two large boxes arrived per railroad marked for our distinguished Secretary of State, and were followed by the United States Officer in Charge at Symrna Station, which is on the look out for traitors and other happenings. Following the boxes to the Secretary Office, the officer requested they be opened in his presenc, which was flatly refused. A revolver was drawn to intimindate the officer but to no effect as he obtained the assistance of Union Soldiers and had the boxes opened. When opened, the boxes were found to contain books instead of swords and pistols as was suspected, so the excitement subsided and everything was all quite again. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
