There were twelve separate excursions on that road alone to Rehoboth and then the State Guard Encampment transportation. With the incoming of many automobiles, Lewes Council will pass a speed ordinance to prevent the raceing along the town streets that have been going on every evening recently. During an electrical storm, Robert Coursey, near Lewes, was killed by lightning. The boys mother was badly stunned, but soon recovered. The boy was sitting in the doorway when the lightning struck the gable of the house. While fishing at the Breakwater, Sheriff Pritchett, of Georgetown, caught a 'trigger' fish, a common variety in Florida waters, but never before seen this far north. It is of a yellowish color and in shape resembles a flounder. A horse belonging to William Loftland, Jr., of Lewes, became frightened at an automobile yesterday and ran away, breaking the carriage and harnesses and finally landing itself in a grape arbor. Fortunatly, the animal, a valuable one, was not injured. The first definite steps to ensure a renomination for Congressman Burton of Lewes was taken yesterday when a meeting was held by a number of district leaders. Delegates to the State Convention will be selected favorable to Burton. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! The Mayor, not lacking in courage, buttoned up his coat , and prepared to meet the strange pursuer, but could see no one but a stranger inquiring of the channel to Philadelphia. It was a flute and he invited the Mayor to sit down, cross his legs, whereupon he played "The Rocky Road to Dublin". ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Years ago when William Penn owned a considerable part of this end of Delaware, Cape Henlopen was covered with a big pine forest, and it was this timber that Willaim Penn deeded to the town of Lewes, for the poor families, such deed is recorded at Georgetown. Since then all who needed wood were privileged to gather the dead wood and falled trees until the last few years when the privilege has been much abused. This week attention has been called to the fact that trees were being cut and the big saw logs were being carted away for for personal profit and William J. Hickman was arrested for the work. although the case was not proven against him at yesterdays hearing, the fact remains that someone has been cutting the trees all throught the section and with the case of Ernest Lynch, another Lewes man who recently paid a fine for the same abuse of privilege, City Council today concluded to stop all cutting and trespassing on the land until further notice. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ DE-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
