Jones - First Colored Woman Licesed to Practice Medicine in Virginia Article Text: Miss Dr. Sarah G. Jones - The First Colored Woman Licensed to Practice Medicine in Virginia Richmond, Va. April 27. The second woman to be licensed to practice medicine in this State during the history of the Commonwealth is Sarah G. Jones, a mulatto of this city. She is a graduate of the Medical School of Howard College, Washington city. Doctress Jones was one of a class of five who were before the State board of medical examiners for examination. She stood well in all branches except anatomy, and although she did not make the minimum mark, she was passed by he board today. The first lady doctor passed the board three years ago.
