Mauch Chunk, Pa. Jan 23. Many of the leading citizens of this State and of New York met here today to celebrate with Judge ASA PACKER and his wife the 50th anniversary of their marriage. As the arrangements were made by a committee of gentlemen, nearly all relatives of the Judge, without informing him, until over one thousand invitations had been issued, the celebration was a pleasant surprise to the distinguished couple. Special trains from New York and Philadelphia brought a great many guests. The celebration was held in the PACKER mansion, which was beautifully decorated and crowded with a brilliant company, among them being Gen. ROBERT PATTERSON [unreadable] McKEAN, of Philadelphia . . . [unreadable] . . . celebrated the 61st anniversary of their wedding. The preacher, a venerable gentleman of 85years, who married Judge and Mrs. Packer, and four of the five persons present at the wedding half a century ago, were also present today. Among the guests were the leadin! g men connected with the coal and iron interests of the State, the officials of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and GRAFULA’s Seventh Regiment band of New York. H.E. PACKER, son of the Judge, threw open his house, which adjoins that of his father, and the guests were liberally entertained in both places.
