One of the most brilliant social events of the season here was the marriage today of Miss Sallie M. Shoemaker, daughter of the Superintendent of Adams' Express Company, and Lieutenant Barnett, U. S. Army. Among the guests were Mr. an Mrs. Hayes, General Sherman and staff, Col. C. W. Wingard, Paymaster United States Army and wife, and Ex-Vice-President Colfax. The knot was tied at the Emanuel (P.E.) church by the Rev. J. H. Eccleston, of Newark, NJ, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. A. M. Randolph. Mr. Hayes returned to Washington on a special train tonight. Killed with an Oyster Knife Baltimore, Md. Jan 30. Jas. [James] Richardson was stabbed with an oyster knife today in front of a saloon in Forrest street by another Negro, Bud Isaacs. It is supposed that they had quarreled in the saloon and left it to settle their dispute. Richardson followed his assailant for nearly a block after he was stabbed and then fell dead.
