THARP and WILENCHICK were excused from play. --- The Confederate Home, 1322 Vermont avenue northwest, will hold the third of a series of historical meetings tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock. Lloyd T. EVERETT, chairman of the historical committee, will read, and Mrs. L. Fontaine DAVISON will give a piano recital. A business meeting: will be held. --- At the close of business at the government printing office Saturday night William H. ROWE, maker-up-in-charge of the monotype section at night, was presented with a bunch of three dozen long-stemmed American beauty rosebuds. The testimonial was given as a token of appreciation from the men working in Mr. ROWE's section. --- "The Zionist Movement as It Stands Today," was the subject of a lecture delivered yesterday by Dr. S. KAPLANSKY, in Flynn's Hall. Eighth and K streets northwest, under the auspices of the Poale Zion Society of Washington. Dr. KAPLANSKY is a representative of the Jewish national fund and leader of the Polish Iron Workers' Alliance. Morris FREILICHOFF presided. --- A musicale for the blind will be given at the Library of Congress this evening, March 8, 1915, at 8:15 o'clock, in pavilion 7. The program will be rendered by a quartet from the Marine Band, assisted by Fritz A. MUELLER, Armand GUMPRECHT, Henry C. STEPHAN, and George G. BAHR. --- It was "Comical Evening" at the Washington Saengerbund last night, and local talent contributed humorous songs and recitations. William HANNEMANN opened with a recitation. Others taking part were William SIROWATKY, A. LEPPER, Gus SCHILLING, S. SCHARBAU, Messrs. O'NIELL and STEVENS and Arthur PIERCE. "German Theater Evening" is announced for the night of Sunday, March 21. --- Miss Julia C. LATHROP, of the District Board of Children's Guardians, spoke last night before the Liberal Religious Union of All Souls' Church. Harry NICHOLS presided. "The Work of the Children's Bureau" was Miss LATHROP's subject. She told of the manner in which the little ones are cared for, how their conditions were investigated, and explained the purpose of the bureau. --- F. A. McKENZIE, professor of sociology at the Ohio State University, and E. S. MARTIN, supervisor of public playgrounds of the District, will address a public meeting in All Souls' Church on Wednesday night on "The Recreation Facilities of Washington." They will report on a survey of the city made during the past few months. --- William EMERSON, 75 years old, a veteran of the civil war and for many years an employe in the auditor's office of the Treasury Department, was married Saturday evening to Mrs. Flora M. EDWARDS, a widow, at the home of the Rev. G. S. DUNCAN pastor of Hermon Presbyterian Church. Mr. EMERSON is twice a widower. Mr. EMERSON has lived for many years in Washington, his present home being at 3223 First street northwest. --- The Rev. Edward A. PACE, director of studies at the Catholic University, has received a number of applications from young men who wish to take the competitive examinations for the Knights of Columbus' scholarships in the university. The examinations will be held April 3. --- Prof. William Macon COLEMAN told the Secular League yesterday that too much science is driving the world mad, and cited the instruments of destruction in the European war to illustrate. John D. BRADLEY and David ECCLES combated this idea. --- The Rev. Gilbert F. WILLIAMS, the Rev. Howard G. ENGLAND, Prof. Claude E. HOLMES, Prof. A. J. SAXBY and Vice President HORTON will speak this evening at the meeting of the American Federation of Patriotic Societies to be held in the hall at Eleventh and E street northwest. The Rev. Gilbert WILLIAMS will preside. --- The Knights of Momus held their annual election last night in the Elks' clubhouse. Plans for an entertainment in honor of the ladies were formulated. The officers elected were: President, Daniel V. CHISHOLM; vice president, T. C. PARSONS; recording secretary, Joe M. JOHNSON; financial secretary, John A. HUSTON; treasurer, Marsh A. BODENHAMER, and sergeant-at-arms, "Pard" JULIAN. --- Boy Scouts' tag day will be observed Saturday, April 3. Boy Scouts will make a canvass of the city to sell tags. The proceeds will be turned over to the organization.
