H. Rhodes Made President At the annual meeting of Washington Cricket Club, held at the club headquarters, 1329 F street northwest, the following officers were elected for the coming season. D. H. RHODES, president; H. N. BRANCH, vice president; L. W. DeMOTTE, secretary-treasurer; Dr. J. S. CANNON, captain; L. D. MILLER, vice captain. The executive committee will be composed of Antony A. SOUSA, R. W. ROBERTS, William WARREN, J. B. DeMOTTE and Charles KING, officers of the club being ex-officio members. The local cricketers will move from their old grounds in Rock Creek park to a new field in Potomac park, occupying the old polo grounds that has been placed at their disposal by Col. W. W. HARTS, commissioner of public buildings and grounds. The members are enthusiastic about the change, as the new home of the cricketers is easily accessible and accommodations for both public and players are better in every respect. A new clubhouse for adult athletes is to be erected and proper provision for storing playing material will be made, it being Col. HARTS' purpose to stimulate interest in outdoor games, such as tennis, polo, cricket and baseball. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
