The Ambassador will be the guest of honor at the banquet this evening given by the Bar Association. The Ambassador and the countess will return to the embassy early in the week. --- The Acting Secretary of State and Mrs. Frank Lyon POLK returned to Washington last evening from White Sulphur Springs, where they have spent the past two weeks, while Mrs. POLK was recuperating from an attack of influenza. During their absence Mrs. William M. POLK, mother of the Acting Secretary, remained in Washington with her grandchildren. --- The Secretary of the Treasury and Mrs. Carter GLASS were the guests of honor last evening at a dinner given by the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and Mrs. Jouett SHOUSE. The other guests were the comptroller of the currency and Mrs. John Skelton WILLIAMS, the farm loan commissioner and Mrs. George W. NORRIS, Surgeon General Rupert BLUE and Mrs. EDWARDS, mother of Mrs. SHOUSE. --- The Assistant Secretary of State and Mrs. William PHILLIPS have as their guest the latter's father, Mr. Henry Coleman DRAYTON, of New York, who will spend a few days with them at Woodley. --- The director of the consular service of the State Department and Mrs. Wilbur J. CARR left Washington yesterday to spend the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Albert N. RUDDOCK at their country place, Curles Neck Farm, on the James River in Virginia. --- The comptroller of the currency and Mrs. John Skelton WILLIAMS entertained a small company at luncheon at the Shoreham yesterday. --- Mrs. George T. MARYE, wife of the former United States Ambassador to Russia, entertained a company at luncheon yesterday in honor of Mrs. EBERLE, wife of rear Admiral Edward W. EBERLE. --- Capt. Arthur SNAGGE, naval attache of the British embassy, is spending a few days in New York. He attended the dinner there last evening in honor of Captain Alfred CARPENTER, R. N., hero of the Zeebrugge raid. --- The military attache of the Roumanian legation and Mme. Teiusanu entertained a small company at luncheon yesterday at the Shoreham and left later in the day for Philadelphia, where they will spend the week-end. --- Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Francis EGAN gave their last luncheon of the season at India House, Brooklyn, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. EGAN are guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. O'REILLY, the latter formerly Miss Carmel EGAN. Robert HOLLIDAY and Mr. and Mrs. O'REILLY. --- Mrs. HESS, wife of Col. L. T. HESS, medical corps, U. S. A., has gone to New York, where she is visiting her parents. Col. HESS will join her there later in the month, when he will be relieved from duty in the militia bureau. Col. HESS has been ordered to report to the governor of the Canal Zone, Panama, for duty as superintendent of the Ancon Hospital, Canal Zone. --- Mrs. Paul KELLEY entertained a small company at luncheon at the Cafe St. Marks yesterday. Among her guests were her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. Bradley DAVIDSON, jr., and Mrs. George E. HAMILTON. The committee for relief of the Roumania war orphans will give a Roumania "fete champetre" on May 10. --- The infantry branch of the army emergency committee will meet on Monday afternoon at 2:30 in the home of Mrs. Emerson LISCUM at 2119 Bancroft place. --- Dr. and Mrs. A. S. BOLLES arrived in Washington yesterday and will spend a week or ten days at the Shoreham before returning to their home in Bennington, Vt. Dr. and Mrs. BOLLES were in Los Angeles for the winter and are making the trip home by way of new Orleans, where they remained a week before coming to Washington. Dr. BOLLES was for some years a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. --- Mrs. Arthur E. HARDING will be informally at home in the Seminole apartments tomorrow from 5 o'clock to the members of the Major William Overton Callis Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and all those interested in the Patriot's ball, to be given May 6 at the Willard, to meet the chapter regent, Mrs. Margaret M. BERRY. Mrs. HARDING will head he ball committee, composed of descendants of signers of the Declaration of Independence. She invites all descendants of signers who would wish to serve on the ball committee to call or write to her. --- The officers of the Marine Barracks and of the Marine Barrack's navy yard, will give an informal dance this evening in the band room at the Marine barracks. Mrs. George BARNETT, wife of the major general commandant of the marine corps, will receive the guests, assisted by Mrs. C. T. LONG, Mrs. John WADLEIGH, Mrs. W. H. PARKER and Mrs. L. H. WILLIAMS. --- A paper chase for children will be held this morning by Mr. Ambrose PREECE, starting from 2602 Massachusetts avenue, and leading to the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. NEWMAN, at 2600 Tilden street, near Pierce's Mill, in Rock Creek Park. The party will start at 10 o'clock and the hunt breakfast will be served at the NEWMAN home, where there will also be dancing. Among those who will ride are Miss E. DOWDALL, Miss HICK, Miss Persis MYERS, Masters ROOSEVELT and Miss Anna ROOSEVELT, Misses SALTONSTALL, Masters WARRINGTON, Miss E.
