    3. Emrys, I can't help you at all, but at least your email is out there. My Davies line extends back to a John Davies (b.29/6/1836 d.25/12/1889). He emmigrated from London in about 1860/1870 to be the one of the first Govt. Stamp Printer in New Zealand. He married Maria Elizabeth Day, they had 13 children. His parents were David & Mary Davies. Does anyone link up with these names? Thanks, Colin in sunny Sydney -----Original Message----- From: Emrys Williams [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, 10 November 1999 6:13 To: [email protected] Subject: [DAVIES] Is there anybody there? Hello All, I joined this list on 3rd. November and expected to be overwhelmed by the volume of messages as DAVIES is such a popular name (I won't say common!). But I have received none at all in that time, am I registered properly? To test whether I am really a member of the list, I am posting this query to see what happens! My maiden name was Davies, but I have been surprised to discover during the course of my researches into my family tree, that I am descended from no fewer than 4 lines of Davies's, none of which are connected. Two of the lines come from Wales, one from Shropshire and the other from Cheshire. My direct line of Davies's i.e. my father's name, comes via Guilsfield Montgomeryshire, where my Grandfather Eli Davies was born in Nov.1870. His father was Charles Davies born Montgomery town, Montgomeryshire in August 1832, and his father before him was George Davies born at Presteigne, Radnorshire in September 1789. Do any of these names ring a bell with anyone? I know that several of Charles Davies's brothers and their families moved to live and work in the Staffordshire/Midlands area of England in the 1850's in order to find work, mostly in the iron industry. I have quite a lot of detail on these families. I do hope that this message finds it's way into somebody's computer, and it just doesn't disappear into the ether! Cheerio Marjorie
