Hi Listers, Thanks to Peter and Daphne Monks for their interest in my gggranddad. Perhaps a little more info on Thomas may help to locate him. I apparently failed to mention on my last posting that Thomas's eldest child, David Oliver, was born in 1859/1860 in Cardiff. Their other son Arthur Gildas (the youngest) was born in May 1867 in Cardiff. There were also two girls - Martha L, born 1862 and Rosetta A, born 1865. Just as a matter of interest, perhaps Thomas' son, David Oliver was named for Thomas' father. Thomas' wife, Martha(formerly Davies) was born 1833 in Fishguard, PEM. If Thomas was born in 1819, according to the Monumental Index, then he would have been 14 yrs older than Martha, and 40 yrs old at the birth of their first child in 1859. The Monumental Index also gives his date of death as 28 Sept 1873. According to the St Cath's Index, he died in the District of Builth. Where is that????? I have no indication of where he was born, except that his wife was a native of Fishguard, PEM, perhaps he was also born there and not Cardiff. If someone has access to the 1871 Census of Wales, could they please have a look for him and his family in Ely Rd, Canton Cardiff as his son was born there 4 yrs earlier. This may throw some light on his origins. Thank you in advance for any tidbit you may find. Yours in anticipation Rosie Hawkins Warwick Qld Aust.
