Davies, 45, of Groendyke Lane in Plainsboro, N.J., formerly of Cumberland Head, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at her home. She was born in North Adams, Mass., the daughter of Benjamin and Mildred (Larson) Davies. Melissa was a member of the Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, N.J., where she was a member of the choir. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh, where she was a choir member and sang solos. Melissa was a 1974 graduate of Beekmantown Central School where she was involved in theater and played the oboe in the high school band where her father was the conductor. She was a 1978 graduate of Genesseo State University, receiving a degree in special education and voice, and was very active in theater there. Melissa started teaching special education in the Newton, N.J., school system in 1979, then in the Middlesex, N.J., school system, first at Watchung School and presently at the Mauger Middle School. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, sewing and decorating. Survivors include, her parents, Benjamin and Mildred Davies of Chazy; two brothers, Steven Davies and his wife Dianne of Latham and Eric Davies and his wife Hulya of Singapore; one nephew, Michael Davies of Latham; and one niece, Denise Davies of Singapore. Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy in the spring. Memorial gifts may be given to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund.
