He also had a sister called Betty b 1930 who married a Dave Chapman in Hull. My grandfather Henry Davies b 1897 m 2 Apr 1925 d 7 Nov 1942. Henry married Laura Ann Stephenson nee Cattle at Hull register office. It was mentioned by relatives that Henry may have been a true cockney. My great grandfather named as James on Henrys, marriage certificate. His occupation was as a general labourer. That is the only definate information I have and all my older relatives have shuffled of their mortal coils, so can anyone help. Many thanks bob.

Cast your net wider and talk to cousins ASAP. They may know something, remember stories, visits, anything. It is far easier to get the information this way than to piece it together from census, BDMs, reading court transcripts, newspapers, etc, and cheaper. Very frustrating and expensive. Otherwise, you are like my wife, kinda at a permanent dead-end. She is chasing a Thomas Davies who came from Wales and that place is chock full of them {:-). She knows the ship "Ocean Empress" and date Aug 1866. May have been a seaman in his early days, but we don't know if that means fishing boats or big boats. Rumours that he was the son of a mayor of Swansea (still looking for a list of them), but apparently came from Mumbleshead. And we can only cast these facts out into the internet in the hope that someone can throw her a crumb {:-) Future replies should go to- thomas davies at woa dot com dot au remove spaces and convert. Good luck and keep hoping thse cousins will remember something. -- Terry Collins Email: genie200605@woa.com.au Researching: Baker, Samuel & Anne, Sydney, Aust, c 1840, Prior UK.
