My grandfather Arthur Davies Cassidy, Born 10 November, 1916 , 28 Joynston street, Broughton, Salford, mothers name Annie Cassidy. No fathers name is given. On the1914/15 electrol roll for Joynston street shows a Richard Davies. There waer no electrol rolls during war but in the 1917 trade directory there is still listed at Richard Davies at that address. I dont think women were included on the electrol roll back then, hence no Annie. It seems a coinsidence that Arthurs middle name is Davies (not David). I might be totally wrong but I think there is a connection!. Whether this Richard is the same as yours I don't know, what do you think? I was always told Arthurs father had been killed in the war and his mother Annie died of a brocken heart. let me no what you think. Gary my email gary.cassidy1@ntlworld.com

Surnames: Davies Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/HNR.2ACEB/1402 Message Board Post: Looking for relatives of Jessie Davies born in Manchester area in 1884. Her occupation was a pattern card maker. Davies is her maiden name. I do not know whether she ever married. She had a son, Arthur Davies in 1913 who died in 1915, a daughter, Dora Davies born in 1915 in Withington Workhouse and twins, Arthur and Harry in 1919 in Crumpsall Workhouse. All of the children are illegitimate. It was known that Jessie had other children in the 1920s but I do not know their names. Dora and the twins went into Styal Cottage Homes, Cheshire. On the Styal Homes records their surname is listed as Davies/Clinton, but I have no idea where the name Clinton has come from. There is no mention of the father on any of the birth certificates and I cannot find a marriage of a Jessie Davies to a man with the surname Clinton. I am looking for information regarding Jessie Davies before and after 1884 (year of birth). As for Jessie's daughter, Dora, apart from her birth, I don't know any more information about her or if she ever married, as she lost touch with the twins years ago. I have come across a death of a Dora Codd in Trafford in 1991 whose birth date is the same date as my Dora, but unfortunately, I cannot find a marriage of a Dora Davies to a man with the surname 'Codd' so don't know whether this is my Dora or not. If anyone has any info, please contact me as I keep coming up to brick walls.
