Recently I've been researching possible Cherokee ancestors of my father's family and have come across the terms Black Irish and Black Dutch which people with European and Native ancestry are called. There are also the Blackfeet, people of European and Eastern US Native American ancestry - not to be confused with the Blackfoot tribe of Plains Indians. According to the family trees i've seen all of the ancestors of my grandparents, Alban Alvan Davies and Harriet Hughes Hughes (yes that was her name) came from Wales in the early to mid 1800"s and settled in OH. In old family photos some of the people look like they could be Native American. Are there other DAvies families that referred to themselves as Black Welsh? Do these families have stories of Native American ancestors?

His parents were Albert Davies & Mary Abberley (or Abbley). Michael Davies was born 18 April 1897 in Wales. This DOB is listed on his Social Security Card application. I have at least two alternative DOBs for him—one 18 January 1896 is listed on his Attestation Papers for the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Another: 28 April 1897 is listed on his Declaration of Intention papers. It was well-known in the family that he “fibbed” about his age in order to join the CEF during WWI. According to his CEF pay book, he had his salary sent to his father, Albert, in Swansea, Wales. His father’s address at the time was 9 Albert Row. Also listed in his CEF papers is a sister, Bridget. I also have a picture of a Patrick Davies, which is believed to be his brother. He married Eunice Clair Hayes on 09 July 1924, in Redondo Beach, California. They had one daughter, my grandmother, Mary Alice Davies Johnson. They are listed in the 1930 U.S. Census in Los Angeles, California. The family moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1946. He remained in Grants Pass until his death on 04 October 1991. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I knew she was a twin & that she had died from scarlet fever when she was little as my mum told me that although she was the smaller of the twins she survived & her twin didn't. You could try the spelling Davis as sometimes records weren't spot on with the surname, as yet I can't find them on anything. I remember Hereford being mentioned. I think he was a bit older than Bridget as my mum said she had a step sister I was working around 1894 - 1911 as I was estimating that the oldest she would be when she had them was about 35 & the youngest 18. Up till now I haven't got anymore info that you already know or that I haven't already told you. If I find anything else I'll reply again.

When Kathleen married in 1953 her father was listed as deceased on her marriage certificate. Kathleen was a private person who never really spoke about her childhood , my husband never knew the names of his grandparents until we received Kaths b/certificate. I notice your mother passed away in 1991 the spooky thing is so did kath in the june. like you i have no details on this side of the family and have been searching for a long time. the only other info I have is on Kaths birthcertificate they were registerd as living at 95 Great Western Road, Gloucester, there is also a time of birth which indicates she was a twin. My husband seems to recall Glamorgan as place mentioned. I would love to know what happened to the family and it would be great to think there could be a connection, I am sure Kath would have love to have known what happened to her sister. Look forward to your reply.
