Anna I've been watching the activity on the list. Some time ago, while looking for my Davidsons in Il., I stopped by the genealogy location in Salem. (abt 75 mi. So. of Mt. Zion). I have a bit of info on a William and a Samuel both born Ulster, Ireland, sons of John and Jane, who are supposedly in my line. A later John who lived in the Union District of South Carolina (married Sally Gillham) was the father of "my" William who also went to Illinois abt. 1807. The county lines of early Illinois were in constant flux and probably lends lots of confusion. However, I believe we're talking of two different Williams. Happy to supply more info if you want. What do you have on Union District of South Carolina? Thanks, L.W. Sherri Which DNA kit number is your family? Only last night, I read in a recently published South Carolina history book (it is about early families in the Union District, S.C. area) that the brothers of my ggggrandfather went from South Carolina to Indiana -- then to Mt. Zion, IL. This is the first time I have ever heard Indiana mentioned in their history. The two Davidson brothers who settled in Mt. Zion were William and Samuel. If they did go to Indiana, they did not stay there. They are both buried in Illinois. I can place William in South Carolina about 1811, because of the birth date of his youngest child. I am not sure about Samuel. However, this is the time frame they could have moved from South Carolina. Does this fit your time line? L. W. (Dave) Davidson, Your line was out of the family that included "Importation" John Davidson (was married to a Jane) and his brother George, as well as the apparent other brother named Samuel. This overall family also included General William Lee Davidson (son of George), the Rev. War hero, after whom Davidson College in NC was named, and after whom the counties in NC and TN were also named. As you probably know, that family is represented by several DNA members/donors on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website (see Family 1): http://www.tqsi.com/davidsongenes/results.php There also an excellent website dedicated to your family: http://davidson.lislefamily.org/tng/ If you enter "Gillham" in the "search box," you will come to Sarah "Sally" Gillham and her husband John Davidson.
