It seems almost certain that Abner Davidson was a descendant of the James Davidson, Senior of PA and then Bedford Co., VA. These two living descendants are wondering what the "connection" was. It is unclear if James Davidson, Senior had a son who was in GA by 1785 or if James Davidson, Senior had a uncle/brother/cousin/nephew who was in GA by 1785. It is believed that the father of Stephen Davidson down in GA was named John Davidson. For whatever reason, Stephen Davidson was up in Buckingham Co., VA by at least 1808 when he married Lucy Neighbours there (and he does not appear to have been related to the other Davidson family that was in Buckingham). Stephen was then in Campbell Co., VA (which had been created from a part of Bedford Co., VA in 1782) by about 1824, and Stephen eventually moved to Ohio Co., KY (the 1850 census there shows that he was born in Georgia about 1785, but I do not know the county or town). This family spells the name "Davisson" today (not clear why the spelling changed). Maybe this apparent "Georgia connection" back to the James Davidson, Senior family in Bedford/Campbell Co., VA (and originally from PA) is further evidence that this is the same overall Davidson family of which you speak. I will keep my eyes open for a "Simonton connection."
