    1. Re: [DAVIDSON] Davidson from PA, SC and GA
    2. Hi, Anna, You are so lucky to have your genealogy back that far! I can't get passed my ggrandfather William Bell(e) Davidson! Barbara Davidson Norkus Searching for that "needle in a haystack!" -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, 25 Aug 2006 3:22 PM Subject: [DAVIDSON] Davidson from PA, SC and GA I haven't written the Davidson/Davison mail list for some time. Therefore, I am giving one more effort to connect to other descendants of the below family. I believe my first Davidson ancestor was John Davidson -- born about 1728 and died about 1801. I am not sure where he was born. According to other researchers, John and his wife, Tabitha, had eight children. Their names were James, Jean, Joseph, John Davidson (RS - born 1761), Elizabeth, Mary, Samuel and William. I am hoping to prove that John and Tabitha were the parents to my first PROVEN Davidson ancestor. My first proven ancestor is, also, named John Davidson. He is my great great great grandfather. According to John Davidson's war records and pension application, he was born 1761 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- on the banks of the Schuylkill River. John and his family moved To Union District, South Carolina before the Revolution. John enlisted to fight in the war, when he was only 16. He fought in numerous battles and was injured by a sword in the Battle of Cowpens to his head and hand. After the war, he resided in Union District, South Carolina -- before moving to Green County, Georgia -- then Morgan County, Georgia. He settled in Jasper County, Georgia. He was married (wife unknown) and had six children. They lived in Shady Dale, GA -- Jasper County. The children were Mary M., Robert, Margaret, Jane, David, and John Davidson, Jr. John Davidson (RS) died January 15, 1856 in Jasper County, Georgia. His son, David Davidson, was my great great grandfather. David Davidson was born November 8, 1808 in Georgia. He married Susan Caroline (last name unknown. Her mother was Elizabeth Henderson) on December 11, 1834. They lived in Long Cane, GA - Troup County. David and Caroline (Carrie) had ten children. They were William R., John P., Augustus Lafayette, Thomas B., Timney Elizabeth, Lucinda Margaret, Mary Elizabeth, Watson Cummins, Susan Frances, and Adolphus Talmadge Davidson. David Davidson died October 16, 1884. My great grandfather, William R. Davidson, was his oldest son. William R. Davidson was born September 19, 1835 in Georgia. Census records lists his wife as Mary M. For years, I thought it was Kate Hammond -- so that information is on the net. William R. and Mary M. had six children. They lived in Chambers County, AL, Harris and Troup County, GA. Their children were Martha (Mattie) C., John Sidney, Lizzie M., Robert Emmett, David Elmo (sometimes seen as Elmore) and Zack (some census records show Zach) Davidson. Side note: I have never found Robert Emmett on a census record -- so am I wonder if he could be the son of Kate -- perhaps a first wife? I know in newspapers articles Robert Emmett is listed as a son, brother, sister, etc. of this family. William R. Davidson died July 29, 1891 in Georgia. One of his sons, David Elmo, was my grandfather. David Elmo Davidson was born May 5, 1868 in Harris County, Georgia. He married Louise B. Harrison on October 22, 1901 in York County, Florida. They had one son, Zack Chambliss Davidson. David Elmo Davidson died January 19, 1940 and is buried in Leesburg, Florida. Feel free to answer me by private email.
