    3. Hi, I descend from Garrard County/Lincoln County Davidsons. (Abner of Garrard County).Do you know if anyone desecended from George of Lincoln County has submitted their DNA? Some old family notes suggested that Abners father James was a brother of George (and a James is on the 1790 tax list).. but the author may have been speculating, with no evidence but proximity! My kit number is 22015 (I think -- family #7) Orren ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2006 4:18 PM Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON] John Davison > > > In a message dated 9/27/2006 3:59:02 P.M. 3. Orren, There is still much speculation on the various Davidson/Davison families that are being discussed in this "thread." I certainly have no "concrete proof," but it APPEARS that Holly's John Davidson (who married Rachel Cooper) COULD have been out of one of the OTHER Davidson families that was in Bedford/Campbell Co., VA when your Abner Davidson was still there (the family of Alexander Davidson and his wife Elizabeth (possibly/probably Elizabeth Steele, it appears). I still believe that your Abner came from the family of James Davi(d)son, Sr., who came to Bedford Co., VA from PA, sometime prior to 1779. In addition, some believe that the John Davidson in KY who married Susannah Jackson was possibly out of the David Davidson/Davison who married Elizabeth Cockrane in Bedford Co., VA in 1779 (and David had an apparent brother named James Davison who married a Jane/Jean/Janet Cockrane that same year). Some also believe that this David Davi(d)son was POSSIBLY out of the Daniel Davison/Davisson family from New England/NY/NJ. A person named Diana believes that her family PROBABLY descends from a David and Elizabeth Davison who ended-up in KY, and she has had a living male family member submit his DNA. That DNA result did NOT match the Daniel Davison/Davisson family from New England/NY/NJ (which has several family members who have submitted their DNA), and that DNA result also did NOT match your DNA (nor the DNA from Holly's family). Diana's family's DNA DID match (or nearly match) some others, but the last that I heard, none of the "matching people" can seem to "connect" themselves to one another. The David and Elizabeth Davison to whom Diana believes she is related was in PA in 1785 (when they had a son there named Philemon Davison). Again, I have no "concrete proof," but I would not be too surprised if that David Davison was a different man than the David Davison who was in Bedford Co., VA in 1779. For one thing, a pair of David Davisons were still in Campbell Co., VA on tax lists in the 1800s. For another, the James Davison (the likely brother of David) who married the other Cockrane women died in Campbell Co., VA in the 1800s, not in some other state. I still believe that you are from the James Davison, Senior family that was in Bedford Co., VA, and I would not be surprised if the Davisons who married the Cockrane sisters there were close relatives of your Abner Davidson. IF that should be the case, then your DNA results would prove that this David Davison in Bedford Co., VA in 1779 and the Daniel Davison/Davisson family from New England/NY/NJ were not related. The bottom line is that we have four totally different DNA results from you, Holly's family, Diana's family and the Daniel Davison/Davisson family. Based on what my research tells me, none of that is a surprise, since I always believed that these were PROBABLY four different Davidson/Davison/Davisson families. Genealogy is full of tricks, twists and turns, however, so I always try to keep an open mind. A few more DNA donors would certainly help......what a great tool it has proven to be!
