    1. Re: [DAVIDSON] Davidsons in AL-About 1818 and Beyond

    3. Is this the same John Davidson who has been identified as the father of John Wallace Davidson. Father John's wife was supposed to be Mary Wallace? According to other researchers on line, this John Wallace Davidson was born in 1814 in Huntsville, Madison Co., Alabama, and then when his father died in 1815, he went to live with his aunt in Benton Co., TN. IF John Davidson (Madison Co.) is married to Mary Wallace -- Then... is there a connection to Lucy Davidson who was married to Andrew Wallace of Hempstead Co., Arkansas? I have seen the Madison Co. Al. John Davidson identified as the son of John Davidson and Hannah Hughson of Pittsylvania/Halifax Counties in Virginia. I have a copy of a will for John Davidson who died in Halifax Co who gives land to Abraham, Joseph and John. I have some follow up on Abraham and Joseph. Son John is a mystery I am trying to find. From other posted family lineages, it looks like this mystery John has been claimed by many families and they can't all be right. There is a strong possibility this third son, John, (brother of Abraham and Joseph) is part of my line so I am very interested in him also. Ruth Kent

    3. Ruth, I would be interested in the Will you have on John Davidson and Hannah Hughson, I don't know if it works with my line yet, this is what I know. I've seen where my John I. Davidson (he is my 3rd great uncle) died in February 1843 in Johnson County Missouri, is claimed as the father of my Thomas Davidson born in South Carolina between 1780-1790. This reference states my Thomas Davidson is the son of John Davidson and Martha Davidson of Bedford County Tennessee. I haven't been about to locate the John Davidson of Bedford Co. TN's Will. Thomas died in Johnson County Missouri in 1845...I have Thomas and John's estate probate settlements. It seems very clear Thomas is claiming John I. Davidson as his son, with all his heirs are his brothers and sisters and parents...so I can only assume he had no family of his own..It is believed John I. Davidson would have been born about 1815 in Tennessee, so he would have been 28 years old when he died. When my Davidson's came to Missouri there were the following: Thomas and Nancy Ann Davidson (mother and father) Samuel Davidson and wife Elizabeth Mansell Samuel and Elizabeth's two sons Bailey P. Davidson b. 1836 TN, and Greenberry C. Davidson b. 1838 TN, shortly after getting to Missouri their third son Thomas Davidson b; 1840 was born. Also Thomas and Nancy Ann's younger children: John I. Davidson b. abt. 1815 TN Elizabeth Davidson b. abt. 1825 TN Jonas G. Davidson b. abt. 1826 TN Nancy Ann Davidson b. 1827 TN Stephen M. Davidson b. 1829 TN Children who remained in Jackson County Tennessee: Thomas Davidson b. abt 1810 TN d. about 1850 TN William Davidson b. abt. 1811 TN d. b 1881 TN Susannah Davidson b. 1816 TN married Elijah Burris The one who was living in Madison Co. AL is Mariah Davidson b. 1823 d. abt. 1916 married Richard Bradshaw If any of this sounds like it goes with your line, please let me know...I've been trying for several years to brake down my brick wall here. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Terry Ruth Kent <[email protected]> wrote: Is this the same John Davidson who has been identified as the father of John Wallace Davidson. 1. [DAVIDSON] Check Marks on Davidson Census
    2. Ruth Kent
    3. Can anyone explain why Tennessee census lists often have a check on the surname Davidson. This phenomenon was brought up by a discussion group and so I began to notice it also. Not all Davidsons have this check mark but it seems like many do. It seems strange that in a full page of names, only Davidson will have a check or mark by it. For instance, in 1820, there are four Davi(d)son listed in Bedford County, TN: Daniel, Andrew, Reese and John. Reese is the only one without the check mark. Daniel, Andrew and John have a little check. Tennessee is the only state that I have noticed this -- it may occur in other states but I haven't looked very closely at early census for the other states. Just wondering what it means.

    3. Terry, As you may know, the John Davidson line from NC and then Pittsylvania/Halifax Co., VA that Ruth Kent mentioned is also shown as part of "Family 4" on the DNA website (see kit numbers 54640 and 36704). As you can see, however, 36704 has 3 out of 25 markers that do not match "your" 41424 in "Family 4," and I don't know if that number of "mismatches" would stay the same or get "worse" if 41424 upgraded to 37 markers like 36704. That John Davidson in NC and then Pittsylvania/Halifax Co., VA had sons named John, Abraham and Joseph Davidson, and it appears that two men from this Davidson family married Shelton/Chilton women (daughters of Mark Shelton/Chilton). There is a surviving marriage record for the above son named John who married Rachel Chilton in Pittsylvania Co., VA on 18 Oct 1786. The John Davison in KY by 1800 or so that I mentioned was John Wesley Davison, and he was originally married to Susannah Askins (as I recall, John eventually remarried to someone else). Some records show that this John Davison was part of "Family 2" on the DNA website (a Davison/Davisson family out of New England). That Davison/Davisson family eventually greatly populated the Harrison/Monongalia area of VA (now West VA). John and Susannah (Askins) Davison had a son named Edward Davison who married Elizabeth Torrence, as I recall (and they also lived in KY). This John Davison in KY is believed to have POTENTIALLY been a relative of the David Davison who, with his wife Elizabeth, had Philemon Davison in PA in 1785 (and this family also moved to KY by 1800), but it does not appear that anyone has any proof of that "blood connection" yet. As stated in my earlier post, however, the DNA donor who believes that he MIGHT have come from that David and Elizabeth Davison in PA in 1785 and then KY does NOT match "Family 2" but is shown as part of "Family 4" instead. That donor (22233) is a 24/25 marker "match" to "your" 41424 in "Family 4." As I understand it from another researcher, a living male from this John and Susannah (Askins) Davison line in KY has expressed a willingness to join the DNA project, so if that should come to pass, his results will be quite interesting (i.e., will he match/nearly "match" 22127, 22233 and "your" 41424 in "Family 4," versus will he match all of the donors in "Family 2" (they all match exactly), versus will he match some other/third family (or other single donor), versus will he match no one)? 2. David Davison
    3. Seems like a perfect setup for the DNA evidence to clarify. A couple of us descendants of Abraham T. Davidson from Pittsylvania, VA. have already had our DNA tested and posted on the Family Tree DNA website. If John Wallace Davidson is a brother of our Abraham and Joseph Davison than shouldn't we be at the very least a close match? dave >From: Ruth Kent <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON] Davidsons in AL-About 1818 and Beyond >Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2006 07:17:24 -0800 (PST) > >Is this the same John Davidson who has been identified as the father of >John Wallace Davidson.
