John For additional research, there is always the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville. However, a weekend probably would not permit you to visit. I don't remember their hours but I'm sure weekends are not open. Lots of records transcribed by WPA. Also, lots of microfilm on land grants, etc. Hit the Hermitage if you have time. Quite by accident, I found a presentation sword to one of my ancestors on display and was able to take a picture of it with my son standingg by. At age 13, he didn't feel the excitement as I did. That was about 25 years ago.. Wish you a safe and good journey. My wife recently retired, and we decided to "celebrate" by taking a bit of a tour to some of my Davidson ancestral places in Tennessee and North Carolina. Although I have been an avid researcher of the Davidson families in these areas for many years, I have never actually visited these places that my grandmother's ancestors lived. My projected itinerary has us in Nashville during the weekend of 11-14 September and in Atlanta area during the following weekend. In between Nashville and Atlanta and the week after Atlanta, we plan to stop in sites in the Bedford/Coffee Co., TN; Buncombe/Transylvania Co., NC; and Iredell Co., NC, with a somewhat fluid schedule. If anyone has any specific suggestions for places to visit or any special events during that time period, I would like to hear of them. Thanks, john.
