Jim, It is not 100 miles from Jefferson County to Knox/Roane/Anderson/Morgan County. Colonel Wm Lee Davidson took possession of 640 acres North of the Clinch in 1801?!! I believe that he was related to the Scott County Davidsons. He supposedly was in the Militia from Abingdon when he went to the Battle of Kings Mountain. He named his family the same as everybody else: William, Robert, James, John, Alexander, Elizabeth Susan, Jane, Mary or a combination. There was another William Davidson in Blount County with a son named Samuel who later moved to Alabama. I sure would like to straighten this mess of Davidsons out! Then there were the Davidsons in West Carter's Valley(Hawkins/Grainger) I know that Clyde was a cousin of my Granddaddy Kemp. > Date: Wed, 27 Jan 2010 16:32:38 -0500 > From: jimsnodgrass@tds.net > To: davidson@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON] William Davidson > > It is only a short distance from Jefferson county, Tn. to Scott county Va. > where another group of Davisons resided and had settled there around 1774. > The names are similiarly used in both families but the James senior of > Scott/Davidson county is also a brick wall. > Jim > > On Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 4:24 PM, Laroice Davidson < > davidsonl001@hawaii.rr.com> wrote: > > > Sorry folks but here goes another of my rambling e-mails..... > > I guess everyone (all families) agree that we need to find a male > > descendant of James Davidson for DNA testing. > > Anyone have any ideas on how to start the search for a male descendant of > > James Davidson of Jefferson County, Tn.? > > > > Just looking at the Will of James Davidson of Jefferson County in 1812. > > These are excerts from that Will. > > > > "Secondly My will is that my beloved wife Hannah Davidson shall have the > > whole > > and sole use of my estate during her widowhood except the use of 15 acres > > of > > Tillable Land which I bequeath to my son William Davidson for the term of > > eight > > years to pay him for clearing the same and likewise having the privledge of > > cutting the timber for rails and coal wood for his smith shop." > > > > Couple of things here: > > Son William was a Blacksmith.
