    3. Bill - What DNA family group are James and Hannah Davidson of Jefferson Co, TN in (the Quaker Family that came from PA through NC to TN)? - Amy Windsor -----Original Message----- From: davidson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:davidson-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bill Davidson Sent: Monday, January 25, 2010 5:30 PM To: davidson@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON] Davidson miscellaneous Amy, DNA proves that these three families in Grainger Co., TN were not "Davidson/Davison blood relatives." The members of "Family 10" (my family) who were in Grainger had come from the Henry/Patrick Co., VA area, as well as just across the state line in the Stokes Co., NC area. Your William Davidson apparently had been in the Orange/Guilford Co., NC area earlier, and the "Family 7" folks had been in the Bedford/Campbell Co., VA area earlier (and they had come to VA from PA). I see no connection between any of these three Davidson/Davison families....except that all of them eventually had at least some members in Grainger Co., TN. There were at least five...and maybe six...unrelated Davidson/Davison/Davisson families in just the Augusta/Rockbridge/Botetourt Co., VA area alone in the 1700s. Also, there were about a DOZEN (or more!) unrelated Davidson/Davison/Davisson families in all of VA in the 1700s. So.....multiple "unconnected" families in the same place at the same time with the same general surname no longer surprises me at all. By the way, by 1780, a branch of my "Family 10" was also in the Orange/Guilford Co., NC area. That branch of my family was headed by a William and Elizabeth Davidson, whose sons included Josiah, William and David Davidson. It appears that this William Davidson had also lived in the Henry/Patrick Co., VA area before coming to Orange Co., NC. I have traced "Family 10" back to James City Co., VA by at least 1682. 3. Amy, It now APPEARS that James Davidson and Mary Bean of PA (whose descendants apparently married into the Selvage family on more than one occasion) were part of "Family 4," but I don't know if any DNA donor in "Family 4" has really proven his "connection" back to James and Mary (Bean) Davidson "beyond a shadow of a doubt." From just a quick look, I do not see where ANY of the existing male Davidson/Davison DNA donors in "Family 4" currently claim the James and Hannah Davidson of Jefferson Co., TN as ancestors. The same can also be said for James Davidson and Mary Bean. I have not attempted to see if there is any "conventional documentation" that would prove a connection between the James Davidson in Jefferson Co., TN and the families of any of the current DNA donors in "Family 4" (but maybe you have such documentation). Some members of "Family 4" trace back to the David and Elizabeth (Unknown) Davison who had Philemon Davison in PA in 1785. I have never seen a "proven connection" between that David Davison and the above James and Mary (Bean) Davidson family (though both were in PA). Others in "Family 4" trace back to the John Davidson who came to the Pittsylvania/Halifax Co., VA area in the 1700s from NC. I have never seen a "proven connection" between that John Davidson and either of the above two Davidson/Davison families.....but DNA seems to be showing that all three were somehow "blood related." 3. Just a note about David and Elizabeth from family 4.  They must have been in PA earlier than 1785 (birth of Philemon) because they had a son (?), Thomas, born in PA in 1775-76 according to Thomas' KY death record.  Don't know if this helps anyone or not.  Diana --- On Tue, 1/26/10, Bill Davidson <tunnelm@verizon.net> wrote: From: Bill Davidson <tunnelm@verizon.net> Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON] Davidson miscellaneous To: davidson@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, January 26, 2010, 8:07 AM Amy, It now APPEARS that James Davidson and Mary Bean of PA (whose descendants apparently married into the Selvage family on more than one occasion) were part of "Family 4," but I don't know if any DNA donor in "Family 4" has really proven his "connection" back to James and Mary (Bean) Davidson "beyond a shadow of a doubt."  From just a quick look, I do not see where ANY of the existing male Davidson/Davison DNA donors in "Family 4" currently claim the James and Hannah Davidson of Jefferson Co., TN as ancestors.  The same can also be said for James Davidson and Mary Bean.  I have not attempted to see if there is any "conventional documentation" that would prove a connection between the James Davidson in Jefferson Co., TN and the families of any of the current DNA donors in "Family 4" (but maybe you have such documentation).
