Laroice - My William Davidson (born 1801) was in Hardin Co, TN living next to Jacob Davidson in the 1830 Census. He married Eleanor Selvidge in 1819 and I have the marriage bond and certificate from Jefferson Co, TN that was signed by Jacob Davidson with his X and William Davidson with his signature. I do think that William is connected to the James Davidson family, but I cannot prove that. I believe that he is the son of James and Hannah's Davidson's daughter, Lydia, who supposedly married a Clark in 1799 per Quaker records. William signed his marriage bond and certificate as William Davidson alias Clark so maybe he was illegitimate. I have never been able to find a marriage record for Lydia Davidson. Basically, the Quaker Record just says that Lydia Davidson was dismissed for marrying out of the Faith (something like that). I don't know if she was actually married and that is the way they stated it since I have not been able to find a license. I do know from Census records that my William Davidson was a blacksmith. Could it be that your William Davidson was a son of Jacob Davidson who went to KY. Jacob (born 1790) was a bit older that my William,(probably 9 or 10 years) so maybe he had a son named William. Would those dates work for your William born in KY. Also, just because James Davidson left his son's land, it does not mean that They were still living in Jefferson or Grainger Co, TN. They could have already Gone elsewhere and would have had to come back to take possession of the land. Jacob and Sarah Selvidge Davidson already had children prior to going to Hardin Co, TN. Check the 1830 Census. It's a good bet that Jacob named a son William. In the 1830 census, my William Davidson's age would not fit with the William Davidson, son of James and Hannah Davidson of Jefferson CO, TN who married Hannah Oaks in 1804. Couple of things here: Son William was a Blacksmith. Anyway to find occupation of William Davidson in Hardin and Wayne County? Will says "Tillable land" - maybe William had already cleared it and already used the cut timber.. William was born in 1783 so in 1812 he would have already been 29 years old. But also the facts are that (MY) William Davidson's 1st son was born in Kentucky in 1811. But the Will says again "I bequeath to my son William Davidson for the term of eight years to pay him for clearing the same and likewise having the privilege of cutting the timber for rails and coal wood for his smith shop." James died in 1811-1812. So if William was a Blacksmith in Jefferson Co., in 1812 could not have fathered a son in Ky., in 1811. (This makes me doubt my belief)... So maybe James's son William did marry Hannah Oakes in 1804 and stayed in Jefferson or Grainger County. That would be consistent with William being disowned for marrying contrary to discipline in 1804. And why would he wait until 1811 to have a child? (Again doubting my belief). Then the Will continues" "Thirdly I do give and bequeath unto my four sons, William, Alexander, Jacob and James Davidson all of my land to be equally divided between them part for part alike provided they pay each of them one dollar a piece to my sons Richard and Joseph Davidson whenever they take possession of the land." So there must be land records in Jefferson County TN showing disposition of the land. James died in 1812 so if his son Jacob was the Jacob in Hardin County when did he dispose of his holdings in Jefferson County? But then I find it interesting that MY William Davidson who died 9 March 1847 is supposed to have left his sons James and Robert $1.00 each. Also, that MY William named his first son James and 1st daughter Hannah which I assume where named for his Mother and Father. But where the name of his second son Robert come from? I know everyone gets tired of my guessing but I don't have any real facts so just keep kicking it around. Comments please!!
