    1. [DAVIDSON-L] Re: Davison / Davidson
    2. One story that I have hear from my line ... (story unconfirmed) ... is that Cornet William Davison came from Ireland, where he was in military service, to Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1709. His superior officer, Col. Armstrong, had been ordered by London to execute a group of Irish insurgents that they had captured. Not having an appetite for what he perceived as outright murder, both Col. Armstrong and Cornet William Davison headed for "the colonies" to avoid certain court-martial. The colonel's daughter, Sarah, came with them. Upon arriving in Philadelphia, William Davison changed his name to William DaviDson, believing that it would make it slightly more difficult for the English authorities to find him. The story further states that he married the colonel's daughter, Sarah Armstrong. Good Luck, J. D. Davidson
